Neuropathy is the hallmark of leprosy, with Mycobacterium leprae affecting primarily skin and peripheral nerves and leads to motor, sensory and autonomic alterations. – 6 In the lower limbs, tibial and the peroneal nerves are frequently involved and may result in permanent loss of the protective sensibility of the sole as well as equinovarus deformity and drop foot. BACKGROUND Knee dislocation may be associated with an injury to the common peroneal nerve with a subsequent foot drop. Previous studies have demonstrated good functional results after posterior tibial tendon transfer in patients with foot drop. No studies, to our knowledge, have focused exclusively on knee dislocation as the cause of common peroneal nerve injury leading to foot drop. QUESTION...

Calcaneal tuberosity fractures comprise only 1 to 2% of all calcaneal fractures. Treatment of these injuries has traditionally included open reduction and internal fixation with various means including lag screws, suture anchors and K-wires. We report on a series of cases treated with excision of the tuberosity frag ment with repair of the Achilles tendon supplemented by a flexor hallucis longu...

Acquired flatfoot deformity caused by dysfunction of the posterior tibial tendon is a common clinical problem. Treatment, which depends on the severity of the symptoms and the stage of the disease, includes nonoperative options, such as rest, administration of antiinflammatory medication, and immobilization, as well as operative options, such as tendon transfer, calcaneal osteotomy, and several...

UNLABELLED An absolutely convincing technique of anterior transfer of the tibialis posterior (TP) tendon for treating drop foot has not been developed. Thirty-seven consecutive adult patients with drop foot owing to deep peroneal nerve injury were treated with bone-to-bone TP tendon transfer. The TP tendon with a small bony attachment was procured from the undersurface of the navicula and then ...

We report a case in a pediatric patient with pyruvate dehydrogenase deficiency who presented for a left foot tendon transfer with an Achilles tendon lengthening secondary to left ankle equinus. The pathophysiology of pyruvate dehydrogenase deficiency is discussed as well as anesthetic management in patients with pyruvate dehydrogenase deficiency.
