御坂・巨摩山地に分布する御坂層群,西八代層群および櫛形山層群中の黒鉱鉱床は宝-笹子,万福-富里,茂倉-三里,御座石という4つの鉱床クラスターを形成しており,いずれも15〜13 Maに古伊豆弧上で海底熱水鉱床として生成した.最も調査が進んでいる西八代層群の層序でいえば,下限不明の古関川層の玄武岩溶岩/火砕岩類の直上に胚胎し,常葉層勝坂泥岩部層に整合的に覆われている.4つの鉱床クラスターは,藤野木-愛川構造線,糸魚川-静岡構造線,および一部逆転した褶曲帯が集中して見られる三沢川断層から距離にして1 km以内の場所に,それらとほぼ並行して線状に分布するという特徴を示している.
