BACKGROUND It has been debated as to whether the polarity of mood disorder (bipolar versus unipolar) has prognostic significance for electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) outcome. In the treatment guidelines, ECT is recommended more readily for unipolar depression and not so for bipolar depression. This study aims to examine efficacy of bipolar and unipolar depression to ECT in a real life naturalist...

Radial head implant arthroplasty is a consideration for the treatment of comminuted, unreconstructable fractures of the radial head. Many prosthetic designs exist and can be unipolar or bipolar, each of which can be cemented or noncemented. For most unipolar designs, a prosthetic stem is first implanted into the proximal radius. The prosthetic radial head is then impacted onto a morse taper on ...

OBJECTIVE Several studies have found reduced hippocampal volume in patients with unipolar depression, but discrepancies exist. The authors performed a systematic review and meta-analysis of volumetric studies of the hippocampus in patients with mood disorders. METHOD Studies of hippocampal volume in unipolar and bipolar patients were identified. A meta-analysis of the 12 studies of unipolar d...

Data from the Children in the Community Study, a prospective longitudinal investigation, were used to investigate the association of personality disorder (PD) traits, evident by early adulthood, with risk for the development of unipolar depressive disorders by middle adulthood. Antisocial, borderline, dependent, depressive, histrionic, and schizotypal PD traits, identified between ages 14 and 2...

Steingrimsson’s coloring complex and Jonsson’s unipolar complex are interpreted in terms of hyperplane arrangements. This viewpoint leads to short proofs that all coloring complexes and a large class of unipolar complexes have convex ear decompositions. These convex ear decompositions impose strong new restrictions on the chromatic polynomials of all finite graphs.

To determine if anodal excitation during bipolar stimulation facilitates the initiation of sustained monomorphic ventricular tachycardia, nonsustained polymorphic ventricular tachycardia, or repetitive ventricular responses, both bipolar and cathodal unipolar programmed ventricular stimulation with one to three extrastimuli delivered during ventricular pacing at two rates from the right ventric...

The aim of this contribution is to present the concept of unipolar parametric evaluation of aggregation functions, and unify the ideas of global and local unipolar parametric evaluations. We show that several well–known parameters introduced in special classes of aggregation functions are included in this framework, and we also propose some new parameters for aggregation functions.

BACKGROUND Impulsivity is a key component of the manic behavior of bipolar disorder and is reported to occur in bipolar patients as a stable characteristic, i.e. a trait. Nevertheless, impulsivity has not been widely studied in depressed bipolar patients. We assessed impulsivity in depressed and euthymic bipolar and unipolar patients and healthy controls. We hypothesized that bipolar subjects w...

Even amongst Cardiologists and Cardiac Physiologists there is considerable inconsistency in the understanding of Wilson’s Central Terminal (WCT), an unusual situation considering the ubiquity with which it used both in electrocardiography and invasive electrophysiology. (1) (Figure 1) The WCT was developed, by Frank Wilson in 1934, in order to allow the possibility of straightforward and consis...

Implantable antitachycardia devices suffer a high false-positive rate of delivery of therapy because current detection schemes based upon ventricular rate and rate variations are excessively sensitive at the cost of specificity. Several methods have been proposed for providing complementary information derived from morphologic analysis of intraventricular electrograms in order to increase speci...
