Genetic relationships within ureaplasma serovars were investigated by pulsed-field gel electrophoresis (PFGE). One hundred thirteen Ureaplasma parvum isolates and 78 Ureaplasma urealyticum isolates were different from their ATCC serovar type strains and different within the same serovars. The organisms were geographically widespread. No unique patterns were associated with invasive disease.

Introduction: Ureaplasma uriealyticum is one of the most important causes of Nongonococcal and Nonspecific urethritis (NGU & NSU) in men. Mycoplasma hominis too has a causal role in NGU & NSU. This study aimed to investigate whether it is possible to detect Mycoplasma hominis and Ureaplasma uriealyticum in first voided urine samples in men suffering from NGU & NSU without complaints of urethral...

OBJECTIVE The underlying inflammation of endometrium may impede normal implantation of placenta during pregnancy. Our objective is to show cervical colonization of ureaplasma and/or mycoplasma as a marker of endometritis in pregnancies complicated with placenta previa that can be a risk factor for placenta accreta and peripartum hemorrhage. PATIENTS AND METHODS Cervical cultures for ureaplasm...

Ureaplasma diversum is an opportunistic pathogen associated with uterine inflammation, impaired embryo implantation, infertility, abortions, premature birth of calves and neonatal pneumonia in cattle. It has been suggested that the intra-uterine infection by Ureaplasma diversum can cause vascular changes that hinder the success of pregnancy. Thus, the aim of this study was to evaluate the chang...

Quinupristin/dalfopristin displays in-vitro bacteriostatic activity against all Legionella spp. (MICs = 0.06-2 mg/L), with Legionella pneumophila usually being at least two-fold more sensitive to quinupristin/dalfopristin than Legionella bozemanii, Legionella dumoffii, Legionella gormanii and Legionella micdadei (MIC = 0.06-2 vs 1-2 mg/L, respectively). Against Legionella spp., quinupristin/dal...

A differential agar medium for the identification of Ureaplasma urealyticum in primary cultures of clinical specimens is described. The differential medium (no. A7) is specific for the identification of U. urealyticum and other members of the genus Ureaplasma. Large-colony, classical Mycoplasma and Acholeplasma species and Proteus L colonies are unreactive on this differential medium. The mediu...

Adherence of Ureaplasma urealyticum cells to eukaryotic cell monolayers was quantified using the Bertholet assay to monitor ammonia produced from urea by ureaplasma urease. Adherence was abolished by pre-treatment of ureaplasmas with HeLa cell extracts and inhibited to varying degrees by pretreatment of the ureaplasmas with N-acetylneuraminic acid, specific antisera and monoclonal antibodies. T...

Mycoplasmas comprise a conglomerate of pathogens and commensals occurring in humans and animals. The genus Mycoplasma alone contains more than 120 species at present, and new members are continuously being discovered. Therefore, it seems promising to use a single highly parallel detection assay rather than develop separate tests for each individual species. In this study, we have designed a DNA...

mycoplasma and ureaplasma species are the most serious contaminants of cell cultures and this remains one of the major problem encountered in biological research using cell cultures. the aim of this study was to investigate the rate of mycoplasma and a total of 100 different cell culture specimens including, r228, hela, vero, mdck, l20, rd and hep2 were collected. then the specimens were invest...
