A 70-year-old man had the superior vena cava syndrome. At thoracotomy a retained central venous pressure line was found to be the cause of venous thrombosis at the outlet of the superior vena cava into the right atrium. A retained central venous pressure catheter and catheter-induced venous thrombosis should be added to the list of causes of the benign form of the superior vena cava syndrome.
Here we report a case of 57-year-old woman with renal angiomyolipoma associated with tuberous sclerosis complex involving inferior vena cava thrombus. We could perform less invasive nephrectomy with thrombectomy because everolimus administration reduced the inferior vena cava thrombus. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report the use of everolimus before performing surgery to trea...
INTRODUCTION Vena cava compression is a relatively rare initial manifestation of underlying malignancy. The superior vena cava syndrome, which is characterized by facial plethora, jugular venous distension, and arm swelling, is a well-known entity associated with bronchogenic carcinoma. Less common is the compression of the inferior vena cava. To the best of my knowledge, this is the first repo...
An area of increased activity in segment IV of liver (quadrate lobe) on 99mTc-sulfur colloid (TSC) scans has been well documented in patients with superior vena cava obstruction. Similarly intense enhancement of the quadrate lobe in the arterial phase may be seen on computed tomography in patients of superior vena cava syndrome. We present this imaging finding in a case of malignant thymoma cau...
The Tempofilter II is a widely used temporary vena cava filter. Its unique design, which includes a long tethering catheter with a subcutaneous anchor, facilitates the deployment and retrieval of the device. Despite this, the Tempofilter II has been used only in the inferior vena cava of patients with lower extremity deep venous thrombosis. In this article, we present a case of superior vena ca...
Anomalous vena cavae can have significant implications for procedures on the right side of the heart. We report a rare anatomical configuration in a 44-year-old female, which to the best of our knowledge, is the first report of such an association. She had a bicuspid aortic valve in conjunction with a persistent left superior vena cava (PLSVC) draining into the coronary sinus, and a left-sided ...
There are a total of five structures that have to be reconstructed in DDLT. These include the suprahepatic and infrahepatic vena cava, the portal vein, the hepatic artery and the bile duct. Prior to describing the various methods of implantation of the donor liver, we will briefly review the different options available for the recipient hepatectomy, as the surgeon’s choice of reconstruction of ...
OBJECTIVE Persistence of the left superior vena cava (PLSVC) is a congenital anomaly resulting from failure of degeneration of the left cardinal vein. The prevalence of this anatomical variant is approximately 0.3% in the general population. The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of the persistence of the left superior vena cava in order to avoid potential complications. SUBJEC...
We report an interesting case of a man with a persistent left superior vena cava (PLSVC) with left azygos vein who underwent electrophysiological evaluation. Further evaluation revealed congenital dilated azygos vein, while a segment connecting the inferior vena cava (IVC) to the hepatic vein and right atrium was missing. The azygos vein drained into the superior vena cava, and the hepatic vein...
