We hypothesize that an extensionwith-conditioning of Dempster-Shafer theory is suitable for encoding uncertainty and ignorance in the Relational Model. We present a formal and well-motivated definition of conditioning, and show the spirit of the required change in the Relational Model and some results that then follow. It remains to be investigated whether these results are satisfactory.

Background Sevoflurane post-conditioning exerts nerve-protective effects through inhibiting caspase-dependent neuronal apoptosis after a traumatic brain injury (TBI). Autophagy that is induced by the endoplasmic reticulum stress plays an important role in the secondary neurological dysfunction after a TBI. However, the relationship between autophagy and caspase-dependent apoptosis as well as th...

Rats, monkeys, and humans can alter the size of their spinal stretch reflex and its electrically induced analog, the H-reflex (HR), when exposed to an operant conditioning paradigm. Because this conditioning induces plasticity in the spinal cord, it offers a unique opportunity to identify the neuronal sites and mechanisms that underlie a well-defined change in a simple behavior. To facilitate t...

This study addresses the ill-conditioning problem of the memory polynomial (MP) model with application to the predistortion of highly non-linear power amplifiers with memory effects. A resource-efficient lattice-based MP structure built using the cascade of a MP generator and a lattice predictor is proposed to overcome the ill-conditioning of the MP’s data matrix. The proposed model performance...

Using causal diagrams and an axiomatization of causality, we examined the well-known claim that conditioning on confounders (“adjustment” for confounders) is sufficient to remove confounding bias. We show that this advice is poorly stated and is incomplete. To remove confounding bias, it is necessary to condition on three types of variables, none of which is a confounder. Conditioning on one of...

22 Experience shapes both central olfactory system function and odor 23 perception. In piriform cortex, odor experience appears critical for 24 synthetic processing of odor mixtures which contributes to perceptual 25 learning and perceptual acuity, as well as contributing to memory for 26 events and/or rewards associated with odors. Here, we examined the effect 27 of odor fear conditioning on p...

BACKGROUND A wide range of value-added by-products can be potentially produced from waste activated sludge (WAS) through anaerobic fermentation, among which short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) are versatile green chemicals, but the conversion yield of SCFAs is usually constrained by the low carbon-to-nitrogen ratio of the original WAS. Conditioning of the WAS with cellulose-containing agricultural ...

The building industry nowadays is facing two major challenges – the increased concern for energy reduction and the growing need for comfort improvements. These challenges have led many researchers to develop a personalized conditioning system. Personalized conditioning aims to create a microclimate zone around a single workplace. In this way the energy is deployed only where it is actually need...

Nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (nAChRs) are essentially involved in learning and memory. A neurobiologically and behaviorally well-characterized measure of learning and memory, eyeblink classical conditioning, is sensitive to disruptions in acetylcholine neurotransmission. The two most common forms of eyeblink classical conditioning - the delay and trace paradigms - differentially engage for...

We examined the efficacy of reduced-intensity conditioning (RIC) and compared outcomes of 93 patients older than 16 years after RIC with 1428 patients receiving full-intensity conditioning for allografts using sibling and unrelated donors for Philadelphia-negative acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) in first or second complete remission. RIC conditioning included busulfan 9 mg/kg or less (27), m...
