l. A simple technique was developed for accurately predicting the biomass of the freshwater prosobranch Viuiparus contectoides (Mesogastrapoda: Viviparidae) (Binney, 1865). 2. Regression of dry weight (biomass) on wet weight yielded a regression coefficient (r’) of 0.99 with an associated P < 0.001. 3. Biomass, therefore, can be predicted by measuring wet weights without sacrificing specimens.

OBJECTIVE The objectives of this study were to 1) determine the prevalance and characterize the symptomatology of Trichomonas vaginalis (TV) infection in pregnant women on entry into prenatal care in an inner-city population; 2) compare conventional microscopic methods vs. culture techniques in diagnosing TV in both symptomatic and asymptomatic pregnant patients; and 3) correlate wet mount micr...

Introduction: Many breast cancer patients experience significant distress immediately following the completion of primary treatment. Women who report low levels of quality of life (QOL) early in this phase of transitional survivorship tend to experience diminished long-term adjustment. Therefore, the present study aims were to compare the effect of written exposure therapy and mindfulness on me...

The aerodynamic behavior of wet forestry biomass particles mechanically shaken in a fluidized bed was analyzed with turning velocity between 0.5 and 2 r.p.s. It was concluded that the agitation exerts an important effect on the fluidization of wet biomass particles. The effect of the agitator is not relevant if the particles have low humidity content. In addition, a methodology based on the Erg...

A wide range of treatments are currently available for severe atopic dermatitis, including systemic therapies such as ciclosporin, corticosteroids, azathioprine, methotrexate, mofetil mycophenolate, and omalizumab. In patients who can no longer take systemic drugs or who need a dose reduction, wet-wrap treatment can be an excellent option. To date, wet wraps have mostly been used in severe case...

The density of biochemical factors of blood in wet cupping is statistically different from phlebotomy In summary we have cupped 40 volunteers and at the same time we sampled their venous blood. Then wet cupping and venous samples were sent to the lab for comparing blood triglyceride, cholesterol, sugar, urea, uric acid and creatinine factors. The results show that there are significant differen...

The factors controlling seasonal rainfall interception loss are investigated by using a double-mass curve analysis, based on direct measurements of high-temporal resolution gross rainfall, throughfall and stemflow from 43 rainfall events that occurred in central Taiwan from April 2008 to April 2009. The canopy water storage capacity for the wet season was estimated to be 1.86 mm, about twice th...

Between them Dorothy McLaren and Valerie Fildes have pioneered the study of English wet-nursing. In her work on the parish of Chesham during the late sixteenth century, McLaren drew attention to the way in which prolonged lactation reduced fertility. Believing that most mothers understood this, she suggested that some women might have become wet-nurses in order to limit family size.' Fildes, ca...
