The concept of energy based Lyapunov control is extended to marine vessels with a nonsymmetric system inertia matrix. Acceleration feedback is used as the main tool to symmetrize the nonsymmetric part of the system inertia matrix. The main reason for a nonsymmetric mass distribution is hydrodynamic added mass which depend on the forward speed of the vessel and the frequency of the incoming wave...

Reverse Time Migration technique produces underground images using wave propagation. A discretization based on the Discontinuous Galerkin Method unleashes a massively parallel elastodynamics simulation, an interesting feature for current and future architectures. In this work, we propose to combine two recent HPC techniques to achieve a high level of efficiency: the use of runtimes (StarPU and ...

Checking infinite-state systems is frequently done by encoding infinite sets of states as regular languages. Computing such a regular representation of, say, the reachable set of states of a system requires acceleration techniques that can finitely compute the effect of an unbounded number of transitions. Among the acceleration techniques that have been proposed, one finds both specific and gen...

A plasma-based wake eld acceleration experiment E-157 has been approved at SLAC to study acceleration of parts of an SLC bunch by up to 1 GeV/m over a length of 1 m. A single SLC bunch is used to both induce wake elds in the one meter long plasma and to witness the resulting beam acceleration. The experiment will explore and further develop the techniques that are needed to apply high-gradient ...

Measurements of acceleration provide an important source of information in understanding and predicting the movements of mobile computer users. However, collecting acceleration data can require substantial time and resources because it involves both human participation and the construction of adequate contextual environments. Thus, simulating acceleration data would be helpful to circumvent the...

A minimal residual smoothing (MRS) technique is employed to accelerate the convergence of the multi-level iterative method by smoothing the residuals of the original iterative sequence. The sequence with smoothed residuals is reintroduced into the multi-level iterative process. The new sequence generated by this acceleration procedure converges much faster than both the sequence generated by th...

the present study investigated the effect of the two vocabulary teaching techniques in est, namely the use of translation and the use of visual aids as two separate vocabulary teaching techniques. to answer the question of the study, a pretest (michigan test) was administered to the 58 randomly selected est students at khajeh nasiredin tusi university, faculty of mechanics. after the homogeneit...

Linear movement of open containers containing liquid is considered. The design is based on a simple linearized slosh model. An open-loop acceleration trajectory is calculated using optimal control techniques. The calculated acceleration profiles are evaluated using experiments with a laser-based sensor and recordings by a video camera. The performance is better than previous ad-hoc controllers.

We present Booster, a new framework developed for verifiying programs handling arrays. Booster integrates new acceleration features with standard verification techniques, like Lazy Abstraction with Interpolants (extended to arrays). The new acceleration features are the key for scaling-up in the verification of programs with arrays, allowing Booster to efficiently generate required quantified s...

We propose the use of convergence acceleration methods for the evaluation of integral expressions of an oscillatory nature, often encountered in the study of optical wave propagation in the turbulent atmosphere. These techniques offer substantial savings in computation time with appreciable gain in accuracy. As an example, we apply the Levin u acceleration scheme to the problem of remote sensin...
