The widespread installation of millions of Infrared Data Association (IrDA) infrared (IR) ports in mobile devices for wireless communication applications necessitates for throughput performance optimization of the IR links at the IrDA link access protocol (IrLAP) link layer. For IrDA connectivity, link-layer throughput optimization is important for any line bit-error rate (BER). The paper provi...
We propose the Open Web, which aims at transforming the Web into an Open Hypermedia System. Based on the Extensible Linking Language (XLink), we investigate the possibilities for implementing linkbase access methods. Linkbases are collections of so-called third-party links, which are links which live outside the resources that they are linking, and thus must be found and retrieved somehow when ...
in MBS Dietmar Petras Dept. of Communication Networks, Aachen Univ. of Technology EMail: [email protected], WWW: http://www.dfv.rwth-aachen.de Abstract: This paper presents investigations on a medium access control protocol enabling transparent ATM access to mobile users. The Dynamic Slot Assignment protocol has been developed. The results of performance evaluations and improvements of ...
A distributed key generation (DKG) protocol is a central segment in distributed cryptosystems. It permits a gathering of members to mutually produce a pair of keys (private key and public key) without assuming any trusted member. The public key is output in clear but only authorised subgroups of members are able to reconstruct or utilize the private key. Existing study on DKG protocols assumes ...
In this paper, we define a two-parameter family of protocols designed for multihop packet radio networks. We call these protocols rude-CSMA because under certain circumstances, maximum throughput is obtained when nodes, even after sensing a busy channel, transmit packets anyway with a nonzero rate. The performance of these protocols is analyzed for various special and random topologies.
A major requirement for providing Internet connectivity to mobile handhelds is the wireless network access for handheld devices. As an alternative to the expensive 3G networks, which share 2 Mbps in several square kilometers, the use of short-range wireless technologies like Bluetooth that shares 1 Mbps among just 7 users, has been proposed. This is much more economical as it works in the unlic...

Reusable APIs often de ne usage protocols. We previously developed a sound modular type system that checks compliance with typestate-based protocols while a ording a great deal of aliasing exibility. We also developed Plural, a prototype tool that embodies our approach as an automated static analysis and includes several extensions we found useful in practice. This paper evaluates our approach ...
This paper describes TMRAP, an abstract web service interface for remote access to topic maps. It can be used to access a topic map repository to query or update a topic map, or to listen for updates to parts of a topic map. An HTTP binding for the interface is presented in this paper; a SOAP binding will be produced in the future.
In this paper, an inhibit sense multiple access–direct sequence/code division multiple access (ISMA-DS/CDMA) medium access control protocol for a packet transmission mobile radio network is presented. The main feature of this protocol is its ability to retain the inherent flexibility of random access protocols while at the same time reducing to some extent the randomness in the access in order ...
