In this communication, we, for the first time, prepared phosphorus-doped cobalt disulfide nanosheets as highly advanced electrocatalysts for the hydrogen evolution reaction. It was demonstrated that P doping could significantly enhance the electrocatalytic performance of CoS2 nanosheets in terms of onset overpotential, Tafel slope, exchange current density, and stability.

Herein the first inorganic magnesium salt solution capable of highly reversible magnesium electrodeposition is presented. Synthesized by acid-base reaction of MgCl2 and Lewis acidic compounds such as AlCl3, this salt class demonstrates upwards of 99% Coulombic efficiency, deposition overpotential of <200 mV, and anodic stability of 3.1 V.

Several imidazolium-based ionic liquids significantly enhance the activity of MoO2 for electrochemical reduction of CO2. The overpotential of CO2 reduction is as low as 40 mV. The ionic liquids act as both electrolytes and co-catalysts, which not only leads to lower overpotentials, but also alters the product selectivity.

We report here a Cu(0)-based catalyst free of noble metals for the electrocatalytic hydrogen evolution reaction in neutral water with an onset overpotential of only 70 mV. This is the lowest reported value among Cu(0)-based catalysts for the hydrogen evolution reaction in neutral water.
