BACKGROUND Myoclonus may occur after hypoxia. In 1963, Lance and Adams described persistent myoclonus with other features after hypoxia. However, myoclonus occurring immediately after hypoxia may demonstrate different syndromic features from classic Lance-Adams syndrome (LAS). The aim of this review is to provide up-to-date information about the spectrum of myoclonus occurring after hypoxia wit...
THE INCIDENCE of atrioventricular dissociation and Stokes-Adams seizures has been variously estimated. Rowe and White reviewed 160,000 electrocardiograms taken at the Massachusetts General Hospital from 1925 to 1955 and discovered 350 patients who showed complete atrioventricular dissociation. Penton, Miller, and Levine reported 251 cases of complete heart block during a 42 year period. In Rowe...
The following case seems worthy of record, not only as an example of a comparatively rare condition, but also on account of the extreme manifestations of hypotonia and bradycardia which for a time seriously threatened the patient's life, but which were followed by complete recovery within the space of a few weeks. Mr. R. H., aged 27, was admitted to the European General Hospital, Aden, on 3rd M...
Predicting the neurological outcome in survivors of cardiorespiratory arrest is difficult. A distinction has been made between acute and chronic posthypoxic myoclonus, called myoclonic status epilepticus and Lance-Adams syndrome (LAS), respectively, with the acute condition carrying a bad prognosis. Here, we report a case of a 37-year-old female who developed seizures after a successful cardiop...
By adding a suitable real function on both sides of the quadratic Riccati differential equation, we propose a weighted type of Adams-Bashforth rules for solving it, in which moments are used instead of the constant coefficients of Adams-Bashforth rules. Numerical results reveal that the proposed method is efficient and can be applied for other nonlinear problems.
In most cases of atrioventricular block with Adams-Stokes attacks the application of either an endocardial or an epicardial electrode for artificial pacing can be performed in the operating-theatre with all necessary equipment available. In some cases, however, the situation is more dramatic: electrical pacing may be necessary without any delay, and it may be impossible to transfer the patient ...
Among I70 patients with Adams-Stokes syndrome, the majority had sinus rhythm between attacks. Clinical and electrocardiographic features of 67 patients in whom syncope was caused by paroxysmal third-degree atrioventricular block are discussed. The patients had normal pulse rates between attacks, their cerebral symptoms were usually not accompanied by cardiac symptoms, and 25 per cent had no sym...
We report the case of a 72-year-old patient presenting in our ICU with persistent postoperative coma in a context of recent unexplored neurological dysfunction. Detailed medical history taking from the patient's family revealed he recently suffered from gait instability, urinary incontinence, and slight cognitive impairment. These constituted the clinical triad of normal pressure hydrocephalus ...
