In this paper we describe the structure of all sequential isomorphisms between the sets of von Neumann algebra effects. It turns out that if the underlying algebras have no commutative direct summands, then every sequential isomorphism between the sets of their effects extends to the direct sum of a *-isomorphism and a *-antiisomorphism between the underlying von Neumann algebras.

With the aid of the computer algebra system GAP, we show that the glued near hexagon Q(5, 2) ⊗ Q(5, 2) has 16 isomorphism classes of hyperplanes. We give at least one explicit construction for a representative of each isomorphism class and we list several properties of such a representative.

A C∞-Hopf algebra is a C∞-algebra which is also a convenient Hopf algebra with respect to the structure induced by the evaluations of smooth functions. We characterize those C∞-Hopf algebras which are given by the algebra C∞(G) of smooth functions on some compact Lie group G, thus obtaining an anti-isomorphism of the category of compact Lie groups with a subcategory of convenient Hopf algebras.

In this paper, we introduce a notion of strongly quasi-local algebras. They are defined for each discrete metric space with bounded geometry, and sit between the Roe algebra quasilocal algebra.
