In medicinal chemistry nitrogen containing heterocycles are the most important compounds which show various biological activities. The cinnoline are nitrogenous derivatives and found to elicit many pharmacological actions like anti-hypertensive, antithrombotic, antihistamine, antileukemic, CNS activity, anti tumor, antibacterial and antisecretory activity. We planned to synthesis new series of ...
Honey: This topic has been extensively reviewed by Bogdanov, online article with original references on www.bee-hexagon.net/files/file/fileE/Honey/7HoneyNutrientFunctional.pdf The antibacterial effect of honey, mostly against gram-positive bacteria, both bacteriostatic and bactericidal effects have been reported, against many strains, many of which are pathogenic. Honey glucose oxidase produces...
We determined the prevalence of plasmid-mediated quinolone resistance mechanisms among non-Typhi Salmonella spp. isolated from humans, food animals, and retail meat in the United States in 2007. Six isolates collected from humans harbored aac(6')Ib-cr or a qnr gene. Most prevalent was qnrS1. No animal or retail meat isolates harbored a plasmid-mediated mechanism.
Dapsone first came into medicine as an antibacterial agent but was found to be less effective than other sulfonamides. Likewise its activity against tuberculosis was disappointing. Nevertheless, it has been the main stay in the treatment of leprosy. It also has some action against malaria and other parasites. Nowadays, after leprosy, dapsone has proved as a valuable drug in the treatment of a w...
Protocatechualdehyde (PCA) is an important plant-derived natural product that has been associated with a wide variety of biological activities and has been widely used in medicine as an antioxidant, anti-aging and an anti-inflammatory agent. However, fewer reports concerning its antibacterial effects on plant-pathogenic bacteria exist. Therefore, in this study, protocatechualdehyde was evaluate...
The increasing prevalence of multidrug-resistant bacteria urges the development of new antibacterial agents. With a broad spectrum activity, antimicrobial peptides have been considered potential antibacterial drug leads. Using bioinformatic tools we have previously shown that viral structural proteins are a rich source for new bioactive peptide sequences, namely antimicrobial and cell-penetrati...
