The diagnosis of antisocial personality disorder (APD) has undergone substantive revisions in the DSM III and DSM III-R criteria. Within the context of these modifications, the authors reviewed the current research and psychometric models of APD. They found considerable variability among these models which in turn appear to be only modestly correlated with DSM standards. Recommendations are off...

The action potential duration (APD) of ventricular myocytes depends on the length of the preceding diastolic interval (DI) in a relationship termed “electrical restitution.” The APD shortens with decreasing cycle length and thus with decreasing DI.1 The teleological advantage of this phenomenon is that it provides increased time for excitation-contraction coupling at long cycle lengths while pr...

UNLABELLED To examine changes in monophasic action potential duration (APD) with a pacing protocol similar to that used during electrophysiological testing, action potentials were recorded in vivo from the left ventricular apical endocardium of 12 normal mongrel dogs. The atrioventricular node was ablated and the dogs paced from the anterior right ventricle at a baseline cycle length of 1000 ms...

We report the results of exposing a Hamamatsu avalanche photodiode (APD) to a 7.9 Tesla magnetic field. The effect of the magnetic field on the gain of the APD is shown and discussed. We find APD gain to be unaffected in the presence of such a magnetic field.

UNLABELLED In vivo molecular imaging of pre- and postsynaptic nigrostriatal neuronal degeneration and sympathetic cardiac innervation with SPECT is used to distinguish idiopathic Parkinson disease (PD) from atypical parkinsonian disorder (APD). However, the diagnostic accuracy of these imaging approaches as stand-alone procedures is often unsatisfying. The aim of this study was therefore to eva...

The purpose of this study was to determine whether the alternans of action potential duration (APD) occurring in Purkinje and ventricular muscle fibers after an abrupt shortening of cycle length can be explained by the two factors controlling the cycle length-dependent APD changes (i.e., restitution and memory effect). Action potentials were recorded simultaneously from dog Purkinje fibers and ...

BACKGROUND The Airflow Perturbation Device (APD) is a lightweight, portable device that can be used to measure total respiratory resistance as well as inhalation and exhalation resistances. There is a need to determine limits to the accuracy of APD measurements for different conditions likely to occur: leaks around the mouthpiece, use of an oronasal mask, and the addition of resistance in the r...
