We propose a method for monitoring proportions when the in-control proportion and sample sizes vary over time. Our approach is able to overcome some of performance issues other commonly used methods, as we demonstrate in this paper using analytical numerical methods. The derivations results are shown mainly proportions, but show how can be extended count data.

In this paper a general method of constructing control charts for preliminary analysis of individual observations is presented, which is based on recursive score residuals. A simulation study shows that certain implementations of these charts are highly effective in detecting assignable causes.
