Towards cooperation of heterogeneous, autonomous robots: A case study of humanoid and wheeled robots
In this paper a case study of cooperation of a strongly heterogeneous autonomous robot team, composed of a highly articulated humanoid robot and a wheeled robot with largely complementing and some redundant abilities is presented. By combining strongly heterogeneous robots the diversity of achievable tasks increases as the variety of sensing and motion abilities of the robot system is extended ...
This paper describes the design of a lighter than air autonomous robot and its natural landmark navigation system that operates in three dimensions. The robot has successfully flown the University banner at science shows and open days under public scrutiny. The robot is nearly 2m long and 0.8m wide, making the robot suitable for use in indoor environments. The robot may be programmed to fly a c...
although construction has been known as a highly complex application field for autonomous robotic systems, recent advances in this field offer great hope for using robotic capabilities to develop automated construction. today, space research agencies seek to build infrastructures without human intervention, and construction companies look to robots with the potential to improve construction qua...
Developing an autonomous intelligent vacuuming robot for household floors is not an easy task. The function of an autonomous vacuuming robot can be simply stated as to autonomously vacuum household floors while interacting appropriately with things one normally expects to find on floor such as furnitures, pets, trash, etc. However, underlying this simple job description are its numerous tough j...
In this paper we describe the application of a Simple ACO (S-ACO) as a method of optimization for membership functions’ parameters of a fuzzy logic controller (FLC) in order to find the optimal intelligent controller for an Autonomous Wheeled Mobile Robot. Simulation results show that ACO outperforms a GA in the optimization of FLCs for an autonomous mobile robot.
We present an approach to hands-free interaction with autonomous robots through spoken dialog. Our approach is based on passive knowledge rarefication through goal disambiguation, a technique that allows the robot to refine and acquire knowledge through spoken dialog with a human operator. A key assumption underlying our approach is that the operator and the robot share the same set of goals. A...
In the field of electronic engineering the work of automation is growing at speed of light. The fundamental concept of autonomous operation depends on technique and logic that we are using. The simple fundamental concept of operating autonomous robot or simply we can say that a mobile robot is a navigation of that robot. The navigation consists of providing the specific path to follow optimal d...
Swarthmore’s entries to this year’s AAAI Mobile Robot competition won second place in the Urban Search and Rescue event and Third Place in the Robot Host competition. This article describes the features of Frodo and Rose, the two-robot team, and discusses their performance. The most important design feature that made the robots successful was a modular software design and communication interfac...
This paper deals with coordinating behaviour in a multi-autonomous robot system. When two or more autonomous robots must interact in order to accomplish some common goal, communication between the robots is essential. Diierent inter-robot communications strategies give rise to diierent overall system performance and reliability. After a brief consideration of some theoretical approaches to mult...
