An experiment was carried out during two subsequent years, i.e., 2009-10 and 2010-11 to study the influence of Azotobacter, vermicompost on growth, flowering, yield and quality of strawberry cv. Chandler. There were nine treatments comprising two levels each of Azotobacter (6 and 7 kg/ha) and vermicompost (20 and 30 t/ ha) and their combinations along with one control, replicated thrice in rand...

We report the complete genome sequences of Azotobacter vinelandii mutant strain CA6 and its parent wild-type strain, CA. When fixing nitrogen, strain CA6 displays slow growth and impaired molybdate uptake, tolerance to tungstates, and production of hydrogen gas, compared to results for strain CA. Comparing these genome sequences may provide a genetic basis for these mutant phenotypes.

In 1923 a 20-year experiment was begun in an effort to gain information on the following points: (1) The factors that influence the longevity of Azotobacter when introduced into a soil from which it is normally absent; (2) the effect of introducing and maintaining an Azotobacter flora in such a soil upon the crop-producing abihty and the nitrogen balance of the soil. The recent comprehensive su...

Twenty-two species of bacteria were isolated from Linum usitatissimum stored for retting. Achromobacter parvulus, Clostridium beijerinckii, C. saprogenes, C. saccharoacetoperbutylicum, C. perenne, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa and its achromogenic variety are retting agents. The last species mentioned performs the retting in only 72 hr. This is the first time A. parvulus has been shown to be a ret...

A greenhouse experiment was conducted at Agricultural Biotechnology Research Institute, Central Region of Iran to evaluate the effects of some plant growth promoting bacteria and fungi inoculation on growth and minituber yield of potato cultivars. The experiment was arranged as a factorial based on a completely randomized design with ten replications. Three potatoes (Solanum tuberosum L.) genot...

The Azotobacter vinelandii is an aerobic, nitrogen-fixing bacterium with the ability to accumulate polyesters such as poly (3-hydroxybutyrate), a particular group of the polyhydroxyalkanoates (pha), when will be cultivated on several carbon sources, including sucrose. Although the capacity of Azotobacter strains to accumulate polyesters is well known, and the genes responsible for their synthes...

Azotobacter vinelandii DJ71, which contains a mutation in the nifV gene, was derepressed for nitrogenase in the presence of homocitrate. When dinitrogenase was isolated from this culture, it was found to be identical to the wild-type dinitrogenase. However, when the same NifV- strain was derepressed in the presence of erythrofluorohomocitrate, a homocitrate analog which produces a nitrogenase w...

The present investigation deals with the role of Plant Growth Promoting Rhizobacteria and chemical fertilizers alone or in combination on urease, invertase and phosphatase activities of rhizospheric soil and also on general impact on growth of safflower cvv. Thori and Saif-32. The PGPR (Azospirillum brasilense and Azotobacter vinelandii) were applied at 10cells/mL as seed inoculation prior to s...
