AIM To evaluate the value of quantitative diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) in assessing the axonal and myelin damage of the optic nerves and optic radiations in patients with chronic primary angle-closure glaucoma (PACG) by using high-field magnetic resonance (MR) imaging (3T). METHODS Twenty patients with bilateral chronic PACG and twenty age- and sex matched disease-free control subjects were...

Rapid species diversifications provide fascinating insight into the development of biodiversity in time and space. Most biological radiations studied to date, for example that of cichlid fishes or Andean lupines, are confined to isolated geographical areas like lakes, islands or island-like regions. Using DNA sequence data of the ribosomal internal transcribed spacer (ITS) for many species of t...

The hypothesis that early plant radiations on islands dampen diversification and reduce habitat occupancy of later radiations via niche pre-emption has never, to our knowledge, been tested. We investigated clade-level dynamics in plant radiations in the alpine zone, New Zealand. Our aim was to determine whether radiations from older colonizations influenced diversification and community dominan...

Adaptive radiations are characterized by adaptive diversification intertwined with rapid speciation within a lineage resulting in many ecologically specialized, phenotypically diverse species. It has been proposed that adaptive radiations can originate from ancestral lineages with pronounced phenotypic plasticity in adaptive traits, facilitating ecologically driven phenotypic diversification th...

Background Visual snow syndrome (VSS) is a neurological condition characterized by flickering dots throughout the entire visual field. Both pathophysiology and possible location of VSS are still under debate. White matter abnormalities were investigated using diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) in patient with VSS. Methods A 28-year-old 10 healthy controls DTI. Diffusion parametric maps calculated r...

It is unknown whether homologous loci underlie the independent and parallel wing pattern radiations of Heliconius butterflies. By comparing the locations of color patterning genes on linkage maps we show that three loci that act similarly in the two radiations are in similar positions on homologous chromosomes.

Effects of decreased ozone and increased UV radiation have been studied by many researchers. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of UV-B and UV-C radiations on Melissa Officinalis L and to study the Impact of salicylic acid in reducing the harmful effects of radiation on plants. The Melissa Officinalis L plants were treated with 28_+2 ºC temperature for about 60 days. The light...

most women want to know about possible consequences radiology, radioisotope or even television terminal. because knowing about them, prevent from fear. fetus is inevitably placed to some types of radiation. environmental radiation occurs from atmosphere, soil and buildings. total radiation above, ingested and possibly inhaled radioisotopes probably is seventy five-thousandth to one-tenth of ram...

Health risks from space radiations, particularly from densely ionizing radiations, represent an important challenge for long-ranged manned space missions. Reliable methods are needed for scaling low-LET to high-LET radiation risks for humans, based on animal or in vitro studies comparing these radiations. The current standard metric, relative biological effectiveness (RBE) compares iso-effect d...
