The study reported here assessed residents' perception of small, fast-growing coastal community on issues of quality of life, conservation, and growth. Data for the study were collected from an on-site survey in Aransas County, Texas from 2006 to 2007. Results show that the residents are concerned about preserving their natural resources, maintaining a small town atmosphere in their community, ...

We consider the dynamics, existence and stability of the equilibrium states for large populations of individuals who can play various types of non–cooperative games. The players imitate the most attractive strategies, and the choice is motivated not only by the material payoffs of the strategies, but also by their popularity in the population. The parameter which determines the weights of both ...

This paper builds a small-open-economy, non-scale-growth model with negative population growth and investigates the relationship between trade patterns and per capita consumption growth. Under free trade, if the population growth rate is negative and its absolute value is small, the home country becomes an agricultural country. Then, the long-run growth rate of per capita consumption is positiv...

This paper discusses the disease-free and endemic equilibrium points of a SVEIRS propagation disease model which potentially involves a regular constant vaccination. The positivity of such a model is also discussed as well as the boundedness of the total and partial populations. The model takes also into consideration the natural population growing and the mortality associate to the disease as ...

The rapid population growth of many African cities has important implications for population health, yet little is known about factors contributing to increasing population, such as the fertility of internal migrants. We examine whether in-migrants to Kinshasa have different fertility patterns than lifetime Kinshasa residents, and identify characteristics of migrants that may explain difference...

This paper examines the effects of lifetime learning on the diversity and fitness of a population. Our experiments measure the phenotypic diversity of populations evolving by purely genetic means (population learning) and of others employing both population learning and lifetime learning. The results obtained show, as in previous work, that the addition of lifetime learning results in higher le...

The development of stochastic demography has largely been based on age structured populations, although other types of demographic structure, especially permanent and dynamic heterogeneity, are likely common in natural populations. The combination of stochasticity and demographic structure is a challenge for analyses of population dynamics and extinction risk, because the population structure w...

in the present study, genotyping of six short tandem repeat (str) loci including csf1po, d16s539, f13a01, f13b, lpl and hprtb was performed on genomic dna from 127 unrelated individuals from the iranian province of isfahan. the results indicated that the allele and genotype distributions were in accordance with hardy-weinberg expectations. the observed heterozygosity (ho), expected heterozygosi...

We consider a spiked population model, proposed by Johnstone, whose population eigenvalues are all unit except for a few fixed eigenvalues. The question is to determine how the sample eigenvalues depend on the non-unit population ones when both sample size and population size become large. This paper completely determines the almost sure limits for a general class of samples.

We propose a method for partially discretizing a model of an agedependent population dynamics with an additional structure whose growth rate is age-dependent. We give theoretical conditions under which a second order accuracy arises. A priori estimates are obtained. The main result indicates that the sum of these errors converges and is of second order accuracy.
