A systematic controller design procedure is developed for the class of linear time-invariant systems which use both continuous and bang-bang control effectors. The sampled-data regulator and its associated weighting matrices and cost function are extended to this class of system, and are used to modulate the bang-bang effector to achieve desired performance levels. Stability, sensitivity, and r...
In this paper, an intelligent-gradient based algorithm is proposed to solve time optimal bang-bang control problem. The proposed algorithm is a combination of an intelligent algorithm called improved particle swarm optimization algorithm (IPSO) in the first stage of optimization process together with a gradient-based algorithm called successive quadratic programming method (SQP) in the second s...

An adaptive cont...
We consider a general mathematical model for cancer chemotherapy as optimal control problem for a bilinear system and give necessary and sufficient conditions for strong local optimality of bang-bang controls. These results apply to a 3-compartment model which besides a killing agent also includes a recruiting agent, i.e. a drug which acts on the residuum of dormant cells in the cell cycle. For...
The Big Bang-Big Crunch (BB–BC) method is a relatively new meta-heuristic algorithm which inspired by one of the theories of the evolution of universe. In the BB–BC optimization algorithm, firstly random points are produced in the Big Bang phase then these points are shrunk to a single representative point via a center of mass or minimal cost approach in the Big Crunch phase. In this paper, the...
T.H. Jensen Feedback stabilization of the resistive wall mode is usually accomplished by using linear amplifiers. In this paper a study is made of a possibility of controlling resistive wall modes using switches instead of linear amplifiers, i.e., using bang-bang control. The motivation is that bangbang control systems may be cheaper than conventional feedback systems. A distinct disadvantage o...
BACKGROUND As many as 80% of patients with asthma suffer from allergic rhinitis (AR), and rhinitis symptoms are associated with sleep complaints The aim of this cross-sectional study was to assess the prevalence of obstructive sleep apnea syndrome risk in patients with asthma and to explore the association between comorbid rhinitis and obstructive sleep apnea syndrome risk. METHODS Subjects w...
The combination of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is associated with substantial morbidity and mortality. We hypothesized that predictors of OSA among patients with COPD may be distinct from OSA in the general population. Therefore, we investigated associations between traditional OSA risk factors (e.g. age), and sleep questionnaires [e.g. Epworth...
Sliding mode controller is applied to an ABS system in this paper. A mathematical model is used for controller design and evaluation. Finally, the proposed control action is compared with that of a bang-bang controller. Simulation results reveal the effectiveness of the proposed sliding mode controller. Key-Words: sliding mode control, ABS, slip, bang –bang control.
