The various plasma-chemical techniques are used for the surface functionalization and regulation of the biological characteristics of fluorocarbon polymers to enhance their blood compatibility. Modifications of the surface morphology and chemical structure to improve thromboresistive properties of polymers by plasma etching and deposition of biocompatible materials are demonstrated and discussed.
Polyethylene fiber (Ribbond) is a bondable, biocompatible, esthetic, translucent material. By virtue of its wide spectrum of intended properties, it enjoys various applications in clinical dentistry. Different clinical applications of Ribbond include space maintainers, fixed partial dentures with a natural tooth pontic, endodontic posts and cores and splint materials in children. Ribbond can be...
Biocompatible materials used for the fabrication of dental crowns were studied. Patients were treated with Gold, Porcelain and Zirconia crowns. Dental crowns were selected according to patient’s clinical status and needs. We found that Gold crowns had low patient acceptance because of poor aesthetics and high cost. Gold crowns could not be used opposite to amalgam restorations for the fear of g...
Magnetite shows enormous potential from biocompatible hybrid materials to heterogeneous catalysis. However, a detailed atomistic understanding of magnetite in complex nanostructures and at interfac...
Purpose The leaves and flowering stem of Origanum vulgare contain essential oils, flavonoids, phenolic acids and anthocyanins. We propose a new, simple, one-pot, O. vulgare extract (OVE) mediated green synthesis method of biocompatible gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) possessing improved antioxidant, antimicrobial and plasmonic properties. Materials and methods Different concentrations of OVEs were...
With the remarkable increase in the fields of biomedical engineering and regenerative medicine, biomaterial design has become an indispensable approach for developing the biocompatible carriers for drug or gene cargo and extracellular matrix (ECM) for cell survival, proliferation and differentiation. Native ECM materials derived from animal tissues were believed to be the best choices for tissu...
Nanofibers or microfibers produced by either of the techniques are used in tissue restoration, compact organs, construction of biocompatible prostheses, cosmetics, face masks, bone substitutes, artificial blood vessels, and valves; and drug delivery applications [3]. Scaffold materials produced from nanofibers offer a very large surface area that supports cell growth [2]. Polymers such as Polyg...
Cytotoxicity evaluation of dentin bonding agents by dentin barrier test on 3-dimensional pulp cells.
OBJECTIVE The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of 4 dentin-bonding agents on the cell viability of bovine derived cells. STUDY DESIGN Cytotoxicity of dentin-bonding agents (G-Bond [GB], Adper Prompt Self-Etch [APSE], Clearfil DC Bond System [CDCB], and Quadrant University-1-Bond [UB]) was analyzed with a dentin barrier test device using 3-dimensional (3D) pulp cell cultures. A co...
Short peptides made from repeating units of phenylalanine self-assemble into a remarkable variety of micro- and nanostructures including tubes, tapes, spheres, and fibrils. These bio-organic structures are found to possess striking mechanical, electrical, and optical properties, which are rarely seen in organic materials, and are therefore shown useful for diverse applications including regener...
