We present a patient with isolated intracranial mucormycosis that remained indolent for several months. The mucormycosis formed a mass in the prepontine cistern, probably spreading from the sphenoid sinus. We propose that at least some cases of what is considered isolated CNS mucormycosis develop from such unrecognized indolent infections. Mucormycosis may present as a mass in the basilar ciste...

The case histories of 14 children are described in which hydrocephalus was found on investigation to be associated with a cyst of the posterior fossa or subarachnoid cisterns. The neuroradiological and histological findings are described. The cysts are considered to be developmental in origin. Their recognition and management are discussed.

Lymphatic vessels maintain tissue fluid homeostasis by returning to blood circulation interstitial that has extravasated from the capillaries. They provide a trafficking route for cells of immune system, thus critically contributing surveillance. Developmental or functional defects in lymphatic vessels, their obstruction damage, lead accumulation tissues, resulting lymphedema. Here we discuss d...

Arachnoid cysts are benign developmental cysts that occur throughout the cerebrospinal axis in relation to the arachnoid membrane and the subarachnoid space(l). Intracranial arachnoid cysts usually occur in close proximity to arachnoid cisterns, most often in the sylvian fissure(2) and they become symptomatic in early childhood(3). We report an interhemispheric arachnoid cyst associated with ag...

We report CT findings in seven patients with diffuse cerebral edema and increased attenuation in the basilar cisterns resembling subarachnoid hemorrhage. On the basis of autopsy (three cases) and lumbar puncture (four cases) findings, true subarachnoid hemorrhage was reasonably excluded. Pathophysiologic changes that occur with diffuse cerebral edema are explored, with proposed explanations for...

CT scan findings, clinical features and intracranial pressure were studied in patients with severe diffuse head injury. Compression of the 3rd ventricle and basal cisterns closely correlated with an intracranial pressure greater than 20 mmHg, with clinical signs of midbrain dysfunctions and worse prognosis. These CT scan findings can indicate whether intracranial pressure monitoring is appropri...

BACKGROUND Aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) may produce cerebral ischemia and systemic responses including stress. To study immediate cerebral and systemic changes in response to aneurysm rupture, animal models are needed. OBJECTIVE To study early cerebral energy changes in an animal model. METHODS Experimental SAH was induced in 11 pigs by autologous blood injection to the anterior...
