Bone marrow biopsy is a mandatory procedure to diagnose several hematological disorders. This invasive analysis is generally safe and the procedure-related risks are rare and include bleeding at the site of puncture and, very occasionally, local infections. Here, we describe a case of sacroiliitis that occurred as a consequence of bone marrow biopsy.
The frequency of bone marrow involvement in patients with lymphosarcoma (LSA) and the particular value of the marrow biopsy, as compared with the aspiration smear technique, in the initial staging of this disease were investigated. Certain physical findings and laboratory studies were analyzed to determine whether the presence of marrow invasion could be predicted. Of 75 patients, 47 (63#{176}/...
OBJECTIVES To describe a rare case of subcutaneous panniculitis-like T-cell lymphoma (SPTCL) with morphologic and immunophenotypic evidence of bone marrow involvement. The purpose of this study was to compare a novel bone marrow device with the standard marrow needle in a prospective, randomized study in a teaching hospital employing hematologists-in-training. The new device, the OnControl Bone Marrow (OBM) Biopsy System, utilizes a battery-powered drill to insert the needle. Fifty-four bone marrows (27 standard and 27 OBM) were performed by 11 fellows under ...
