RotaTeqTM is a pentavalent rotavirus vaccine based on a bovine rotavirus genetic backbone in vitro reassorted with human outer capsid genes. During clinical trials of RotaTeqTM in Sub-Saharan Africa, the vaccine efficacy over a 2-year follow-up was lower against the genotypes contained in the vaccine than against the heterotypic G8P[6] and G8P[1] rotavirus strains of which the former is highly ...

BACKGROUND Rotaviruses (RV) are important viral diarrheal agents in calves. Vaccination is an optimum measure to prevent bovine rotaviruses (BRV) infection. However, little research on BRV VP7 vaccine has been done and currently there is no BRV vaccine. OBJECTIVE To prepare a subunit vaccine of BRV and investigate its efficacy. METHODS Total RNA was extracted from MA104 cells infected with ...

Rotaviruses (RVs) are significant enteric pathogens of humans and animals. In March 2021, the University Kentucky Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory (UKVDL) received a fecal sample from 1-week-old goat kid with diarrhea farm 5 additional diarrheic kids. The was tested negative for Bovine coronavirus , rotavirus Group A, E. coli K99+, Cryptosporidium parvum Salmonella spp by multiplex real-time PC...

The whole genome of a G8P[8] rotavirus from the 2006 epidemic in Croatia was sequenced and showed a Wa-like genotype constellation. Its VP7 gene clustered with DS-1-like G8 African rotaviruses and a G8P[4] German strain. Remaining genes clustered with contemporary Belgian G1P[8] rotaviruses, suggesting reassortment between human G8 and G1P[8] rotaviruses in Croatia or other European countries.

Cell entry of rotaviruses is a complex process, which involves sequential interactions with several cell surface molecules. Among the molecules implicated are gangliosides, glycosphingolipids with one or more sialic acid (SA) residues. The role of gangliosides in rotavirus cell entry was studied by silencing the expression of two key enzymes involved in their biosynthesis--the UDP-glucose:ceram...

Since the mid-1990s, novel G9 rotaviruses have been detected in many countries, suggesting that G9 is a globally important serotype. The molecular epidemiology of G9 rotaviruses in Taiwan from 2000 to 2002 was investigated in this study. G9 rotavirus first appeared in 2000 with 4 cases and constituted 33.8% and 54.8% of the rotavirus-positive samples in 2001 and 2002, respectively. These G9 str...

Sera from (i) gnotobiotic BALB/c, CD-1, and CFW mice and (ii) conventional BALB/c mice were evaluated by radioimmunoassay, radioimmunoprecipitation, and plaque reduction neutralization, using the Wa, SA-11, and WC-3 (bovine) strains of rotavirus as the detecting antigens. The gnotobiotic mice had no antirotavirus antibody detectable by radioimmunoprecipitation and no neutralizing antibody at a ...
