We investigate the DD̄ decay width of excited charmonium states at finite nuclear density with simultaneous modification of both D and D̄ mesons in nuclear matter. The strongest effect is found for the Ψ ′ meson. The medium modification can be detected by dilepton spectroscopy as substantial Ψ ′ broadening and anomalous Ψ ′ absorption. In this work, we succeeded in preparing in-plane zinc oxide nanowires using a Ti-grid assisted by the chemical vapor deposition method. Optical spatial mapping of the Confocal Raman spectra was used to investigate the phonon and geometric properties of a single ZnO nanowire. The local optical results reveal a red shift in the non-polar E2 high frequency mode and width broadening along the growt...

Optically controlled delay lines in optical fibers are demonstrated by use of the group-velocity control of signal pulses based on stimulated Brillouin scattering. We achieve continuous time delay within the range of 150 ns, much larger than the width of the 40 ns signal pulse, using cascaded fiber segments joined by unidirectional optical attenuators. In the meantime, we also observe a large a...

The spectral width observed by Doppler radars can be due to several e€ects including the atmospheric turbulence within the radar sample volume plus e€ects associated with the background ̄ow and the radar geometry and con®guration. This study re-examines simple models for the e€ects due to ®nite beamwidth and vertical shear of the horizontal wind. Analytic solutions of 1and 2-dimensional models ...

Although the Raman effect is nearly two orders of magnitude stronger than the electronic Kerr nonlinearity in silicon, under pulsed operation regime where the pulse width is shorter than the phonon response time, Raman effect is suppressed and Kerr nonlinearity dominates. Continuum generation, made possible by the non-resonant Kerr nonlinearity, offers a technologically and economically appeali...

Perovskite nanoplatelets possess extremely narrow absorption and emission line widths, which are crucial characteristics for many optical applications. However, their underlying intrinsic extrinsic line-broadening mechanisms poorly understood. Here, we apply multidimensional coherent spectroscopy to determine the homogeneous broadening of colloidal perovskite nanoplatelet ensembles. We demonstr...

We observe interaction-induced broadening of the two-photon 5s-18s transition in ^{87}Rb atoms trapped in a 3D optical lattice. The measured linewidth increases by nearly 2 orders of magnitude with increasing atomic density and excitation strength, with corresponding suppression of resonant scattering and enhancement of off-resonant scattering. We attribute the increased linewidth to resonant d...

We present the result of a preliminary analysis of the 2D spectra of Hα and Ca ii λ8542 for a limb flare on 11 November, 1998. Near the top of the flaring loop, the Hα line is extraordinarily broadened. The effect of line opacity (or the saturation of line core) cannot fully account for the observed line width since it requires an extremely high loop density (n H > ∼ 10 13 cm −3 when T = 10 4 K...

The distance between the two metal binding sites of human serum transferrin is calculated from measurements made of the paramagnetic broadening of the EPR spectrum of Cu2+ bound at the NH2-terminal (B) site from Fe3+ bound at the COOH-terminal (A) site. Complexes of monoferric(A)-monocupric(B) transferrin, monocupric(B) transferrin, and monogallium(A)-monocupric(B) transferrin were prepared und...

The frequency shift of spectral lines is most often explained by the Doppler Effect in terms of relative motion, whereas theDoppler broadening of a particular line mainly depends on the absolute temperature. The Wolf effect on the other hand deals with the correlation induced spectral change and explains both the broadening and shift of the spectral lines. In this framework a relation between t...
