The Streptomycetes are gram positive bacteria with a filamentous form that present in a wide variety of soil including composts, water and plants. The most characteristic of Streptomycetes is the ability to produce secondary metabolites such as antibiotics. They produce over two-thirds of the clinically useful antibiotics of natural origin (e.g., neomycin and chloramphenicol. Another characteri...

Streptomyces sp. H-KF8 is an actinobacterial strain isolated from marine sediments of a Chilean Patagonian fjord. Morphological characterization together with antibacterial activity was assessed in various culture media, revealing a carbon-source dependent activity mainly against Gram-positive bacteria (S. aureus and L. monocytogenes). Genome mining of this antibacterial-producing bacterium rev...

This study was designed with the aim of exploring efficacy RNA polymerase beta subunit, rpoB gene analysis for identification streptomycetes. A characteristic marine environment distinguished by their content streptomycetes were targeted, and two organisms genus Streptomyces isolated in Saudi Arabia. The spp., named isolates EH1 EH2 subjected to regular phenotypic characterization including mor...

An actinomycetes strain designated as MN 2(6) was isolated from the solitary wasp mud nest. The isolate was identified using polyphasic taxonomy. It produced the extensive branched brown substrate and white aerial hyphae that changed into grayish black. The aerial mycelia produced the spiral spore chains with rugose spore surface. The growth was observed between temperature range of 27-37°C, pH...

Three strains among 20 Streptomyces isolates produce a diffusible dark brown pigment on both peptone-yeast extract agar and Streptomyces isolation agar. They also showed the positive reaction towards L-tyrosine substrates. The pigment has been referred to be dark brown water soluble pigment, as melanin. The present study reports antioxidant activity of melanin pigment from Actinomycete (Strepto...

Emergence of drug resistance among Staphylococcus aureus to currently used antibiotics has made the search for novel bioactive compounds from natural and unexplored habitats a necessity. In this study, isolation, characterization and antimicrobial activity of an actinomycete strain isolated from air at Scientific and Technological Equipments Building, Walailak University, located in Southern Th...

A new iron-containing peptide which inhibits the growth of Gram-positive and some Gram-negative bacteria was isolated from the broth of Streptomyces AS-K-753. The antibiotic was obtained as light buff plates. On acid hydrolysis eight amino acids, three organic acids and one keto acid could be detected. ASK-753 is similar in many properties to the sideromycin but differs from it in certain cruci...

Three novel 36-membered macrolide antibiotics, RS-22A, B and C produced by Streptomyces violaceusniger have been isolated. These antibiotics were purified from an acetone extract of the mycelia followed by butanol extraction, centrifugal partition chromatography and HPLC. RS-22A, B, C showed antimicrobial activity against fungi and Gram-positive bacteria.

antibiotics are the best known products of actinomycete. over 5,000 antibiotics have been identified from the cultures of gram positive and gram-negative organisms, and filamentous fungi, but only about 100 antibiotics have commercially been used to treat human, animal and plant diseases. the genus, streptomycete, is responsible for the formation of more than 60% of known antibiotics. bacterial...

Melanogenesis inhibitors, OH-3984 K1 and K2 were isolated from fermentation broth of Streptomyces sp. OH-3984. OH-3984 K1 and K2 inhibited the melanogenesis of B16 melanoma cells at concentrations of 7.5 and 3.8 micrograms/ml, respectively, whereas inhibition of tyrosinase activity has not been observed. The microbial metabolites showed no antimicrobiological activities against Gram-positive an...
