The calorimeter electronics of the NEMO-3 double beta decay experiment fulfills three functions: energy measurement of the electrons by measuring the charge of the pulses, time measurement, fast first level triggering. The electronics of the 1940 Scintillator-PM modules is implemented as 40 "9U x 400mm VME" boards of up to 51 channels. For each channel the analog signals conditioning is impleme...

From 2007 the new CERN proton proton collider will start collisions that could open new perspectives in the fields of high energy particle physics. The CMS experiment at the LHC is in advanced construction phase. In particular new physics could be discovered thanks to the CMS precise electromagnetic calorimeter (ECAL) made of about 75000 scintillating PbWO 4 crystals. A description of the ECAL ...

For several years, CALICE has been testing highly granular calorimeter prototypes using analogue readout. These devices are envisaged for particle flow [1] application in a future linear collider detector. A novel alternative, especially interesting for the hadron calorimeter, is to use a simplified digital (= 1 – bit) readout coupled with very small cell sizes. In the past year the first large...

The E877 experimental setup is discussed in detail elsewhere [1–4]. In the current analysis, for the reaction plane determination and the evaluation of the reaction plane resolution, we exploit the almost 4π calorimeter coverage of the apparatus (the Target Calorimeter (TCal) covers the pseudorapidity range −0.5 < η < 0.8, the Participant Calorimeter (PCal) 0.8 < η < 4.2). Charged particles, em...

The ZEUS detector at HERA has been supplemented with a presampler detector in front of the forward and rear calorimeters. It consists of a segmented scintillator array read out with wavelength-shifting fibers. We discuss its design, construction and performance. Test beam data obtained with a prototype presampler and the ZEUS prototype calorimeter demonstrate the main function of this detector,...

A Semi-Digital Hadronic Calorimeter using Glass Resistive Plate Chambers (GRPCs) is one of the calorimeters candidates proposed for particle physics experiments at the future electrons collider. It is a high granular calorimeter which is required for application of the particle flow algorithm in order to improve the jet energy resolution to achieve 30%= ffiffiffi E p as one of the goals of thes...

An improved calibration technique based on a radio-frequency-quadrupole (RFQ) accelerator is presented. A high-intensity flux of 17.6 MeV photons, produced by radiative capture of 1.85 MeV protons from the RFQ in a lithium target, is used to calibrate 11000 crystals of the L3 BGO calorimeter. In this paper, we present results obtained for the calibration of 1997 and 1998 L3 data samples. For th...

Pion energy reconstruction is studied using the data collected during the 2004 ATLAS combined test beam. The strategy to extract corrections for the non-compensating nature of the ATLAS calorimeters for dead material losses and for leakage effects is discussed and assessed. The default ATLAS strategy based on a weighting technique of the energy deposits in calorimeter cells is presented and com...

The lateral and longitudinal profiles of the hadronic showers detected by iron-scintillator tile hadron calorimeter with longitudinal tile configuration have been investigated. The results are based on 100 GeV pion beam data. Due to the beam scan provided many different beam impact locations with cells it is succeeded to obtain detailed picture of transverse shower behavior. The underlying radi...

In the PHENIX experiment at RHIC, the electro-magnetic calorimeter plays an important role in both the heavy-ion and spin physics programs for which it was designed. In order to measure its performance in the energy range up to 80GeV, a beam test was performed at the CERN-SPS H6 beam line. We describe the beam test and present results on calorimeter performance with pion and electron beams.
