Introduction: Laser interstitial thermotherapy (LITT) is an internal ablation therapy method consisting of a percutaneous or intraoperative insertion of laser fibers directly into the liver tumor with maximum diameter of 5 cm. In this treatment method, there isn’t any general information about the relationship between increasing the exposure power, coagulation and carboniza...
Hydrophilic mesoporous carbon nanoparticles (MCNs) have been synthesized via an extremely facile precursor carbonization-in-hot solvent route. The synthesized MCNs show well-defined particle and pore size distribution at around 100 nm and 2.7 nm, respectively, and multicolor and upconversion photoluminescence, which endow the MCNs with multicolor/upconversion bioimaging and drug delivery proper...
In this communication we have demonstrated the synthesis of organosilica nanotubes with inner diameter of ∼6 nm and their carbonization to form carbon/silica composite nanotubes. Pd nanoparticles. encapsulated in the organosilica and carbon/silica nanotubes show different catalytic activities in the hydrogenation of cyclohexene.
Hydrothermal Carbonization of Biomass: Design of a Batch Reactor and Preliminary Experimental Results Luca Fiori*, Daniele Basso, Daniele Castello, Marco Baratieri a University of Trento, Department of Civil, Environmental and Mechanical Engineering, via Mesiano, 77 – 38123 Trento, Italy b Free University of Bolzano, Faculty of Science and Technology, Piazza Università 5 – 39100 Bolzano, Italy ...
Nanosize-controllable Cu, Ag, Pd, Ni, CuPd alloy and Cu-Ag bimetal encapsulated in inert carbon shells can be synthesized by carbonization of metal-cyclodextrin complexes with a remarkable capability of experimentally determining the size-dependent melting temperature depression of many metal or alloy nanoparticles.
This contribution is based on the monograph entitled “Recent Advances in Thermochemical Conversion of Biomass”, covering both general items as well as the primary processes, like fast pyrolysis, gasification, hydrothermal liquefaction, carbonization and secondary processes, like co-processing of bio-oil in fluidized catalytic cracking (FCC), Fischer-Tropsch synthesis and valorization of lignin ...
Metal-free N-doped carbons with controllable pore texture were derived from carbonization of ionic liquid and served as catalysts for oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) with an activity comparable to that of Pt/C. The investigation shows that both the ORR activity and kinetics are strongly correlated with the pore size distribution.
Inhibition of the bioavailability of heavy metals in sewage sludge biochar by adding two stabilizers
Agricultural application of sewage sludge (SS) after carbonization is a plausible way for disposal. Despite its benefits of improving soil fertility and C sequestration, heavy metals contained in sewage sludge biochars (SSB) are still a concern. In this study, two types of heavy metal stabilizers were chosen: fulvic acid (FA) and phosphogypsum (with CaSO4, CS, as the main component). The two st...
Ionic liquids and poly(ionic liquid)s have been successfully converted into nitrogen-doped porous carbons with tunable surface area up to 1200 m²/g at high temperatures in air. Compared to conventional carbonization process conducted under inert gas to produce nitrogen-doped carbons, the new production method was completed in a rather shorter time without noble gas protection.
A facile green chemistry carbonization method has been discovered for the synthesis of uniform silver@carbon rich composite (carbon and cross-linked polyvinyl alcohol) core-shell sub-microcables in large quantities, where the carbon sources such as glucose-based saccharides have played important roles in the formation of these novel sub-microcables.
