The CREAM experiment investigate the energy spectrum of nuclear elements from H to Fe in cosmic rays, over the range to eV, with an instrument designed to achieve individual elements separation over the whole mass range. A proximity focused Cherenkov imager, CHERCAM (CHERenkov CAMera), will provide both a good topological signature (Cherenkov ring) for downgoing Z=1 particles and a charge indep...

We report a comprehensive numerical study of a type of quasi-phase-matched Cherenkov third harmonic generation in a nonlinear waveguide, and this Cherenkov third harmonic generation consists of a guided-to-guided second harmonic generation cascaded with a guided-to-radiated sum-frequency generation. Following the coupled-mode theory, the temperature-detuning characteristics of third harmonic (T...

We report on the investigation of symmetrical properties of lithium niobate (LiNbO3) domain walls utilizing the nonlinear Cherenkov radiation. Compared with LiNbO3 bulk crystals, new nonzero elements of the χ(2) tensor at domain walls are found by the Cherenkov second harmonic generation (CSHG) and Cherenkov sum frequency generation (CSFG) measurement. Experimen...

An excellent particle identification (PID) of hadrons and leptons over a large range of solid angle and momenta is an essential requirement for the precision measurement aims in PANDA experiment at FAIR, GSI [1]. For charged hadron identification in the barrel region of the PANDA detector, a compact imaging Cherenkov detector following the DIRC (Detection of Internally Reflected Cherenkov light...

An all-fiber femtosecond source of spectrally isolated Cherenkov radiation is reported, to the best of our knowledge, for the first time. Using a monolithic, self-starting femtosecond Yb-doped fiber laser as the pump source and the combination of photonic crystal fibers as the wave-conversion medium, we demonstrate milliwatt-level, stable, and tunable Cherenkov radiation at visible wavelengths ...

The Solar Tower Atmospheric Cherenkov Effect Experiment (STACEE) is designed to explore the gamma-ray sky between 20 and 250 GeV using the atmospheric Cherenkov technique. STACEE will use large solar heliostat mirrors to reflect Cherenkov light created in gamma-ray air showers to secondary mirrors on a central tower. The secondary mirrors image this light onto photomultiplier tube cameras that ...

I propose an observable to declare the formation of Quark Plasma (QP) without any doubts. It is the observation of Cherenkov photon radiations of the order of 100 MeV associated with fast light charged particles while they are penetrating hot dense mediums produced in high energy heavy ion collisions. Direct observations of Cherenkov rings associated with charged leptons decayed from Z boson or...

We experimentally demonstrate an efficient electro-optic sampling scheme based on Cherenkov phase matching of broadband terahertz radiation with 800-nm femtosecond probe beam in a 0.5 mm-thick LiNbO3 crystal coupled to a Si prism. The electro-optic signal from a Cherenkov-phase-matched LiNbO3 crystal is found to be comparable to that with a 4 mm-thick ZnTe crystal using a collinear phase matchi...

In this article we discuss the possibility of using the observations by GLAST of standard gamma sources, as the Crab Nebula, to calibrate Imaging Air Cherenkov detectors, MAGIC in particular, and optimise their energy resolution. We show that at around 100 GeV the absolute energy calibration uncertainty of Cherenkov telescopes can be reduced to . 10% by means of such cross-calibration procedure.

Transverse mass spectra of protons and deuterons in rapidity window y=1.9{2.3 are presented for 158 A GeV Pb+Pb and 200 A GeV S+S and S+Pb collisions. The inverse slope parameter increases with system size and with particle mass. In the framework of a coalescence model a radius parameter RG can be extracted. Transverse mass dependence of RG is consistent with the 1= p mT decrease of the radius ...
