A novel colloidal approach toward semiconductor/metal nanocomposites is presented. Organic-soluble anatase TiO(2) nanorods are used for the first time to stabilize Ag nanoparticles in optically clear nonpolar solutions in the absence of specific ligands for silver. Metallic silver is generated upon UV illumination of deaerated TiO(2) solutions containing AgNO(3). The Ag nanoparticles can be obt...

In this study, a single-step method for green synthesis of silver nanoparticles usingAloe Vera gel extract and sunlight was investigated. The Aloe Vera gel extractis composed of pectins, lignin, and hemicellulose, which can be used in thereduction of silver ions to produce colloidal silver nanoparticles (AgNPs-AV). Thepreliminary preparation of silver nanoparticles was o...

The synthesis of bulk imprinted silica using colloidal gold as a functional template is demonstrated. The imprinting approach relies on the isolation of colloidal gold in gold@silica nanoparticles synthesized via a 3-aminopropyltrimethoxysilane (APS) route. Gold@silica nanoparticles are then condensed within a silica framework for the synthesis of a composite gold-silica material containing ~30...

Development of biologically inspired experimental processes for the synthesis of nanoparticles might be important in biomedical applications. Solanum torvum extract when challenged with chloroauric acid leads to formation of gold nanoparticles. The formations of gold nanoparticles were studied by UV-vis spectra and their size of gold nanoparticles in the colloidal solutions was investigated by ...

Silicon nanoparticles have important applications, including nonvolatile floating-gate memory devices. To prevent device performance variations, particle size and oxide thicknesses need to be controlled with a high degree of precision. Additionally, producing well-ordered, two-dimensional arrays of nanoparticles may require the exploitation of self-assembly techniques and colloidal forces, whic...

Holographic gratings are recorded in colloidal suspensions of silver nanoparticles by utilizing interfering nanosecond pulses. The diffraction efficiency is measured with continuous-wave light. An instantaneous response together with a transient grating are observed: the nanoparticles absorb the pump light and heat up. Heat is transferred to the solvent, and a delayed thermal grating appears. T...

We show that the substrate affects the interparticle spacing in monolayer arrays with hexagonal order formed by self-assembly of polymer grafted nanoparticles. Remarkably, arrays with square packing were formed due to convective shearing at a liquid surface induced by miscibility of colloidal solution with the substrate.

Surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) optical nanoprobes offer a number of advantages for ultrasensitive analyte detection. These functionalized colloidal nanoparticles are a multifunctional assay component. providing a platform for conjugation to spectral tags, stabilizing polymers, and biorecognition elements such as aptamers or antibodies. We demonstrate the design and characterization of...
