For isospectral bilinear control systems evolving on the so-called complex flag manifolds (i.e., on the orbits of the Hermitian matrices under unitary conjugation action) it is shown that controllability is almost always verified. Easy and generic sufficient conditions are provided. The result applies to the problem of density operator controllability of finite dimensional quantum mechanical sy...

We study controllability of switched differential algebraic equations. We are able to establish a controllability characterization where we assume that the switching signal is known. The characterization takes into account possible jumps induced by the switches. It turns out that controllability not only depends on the actual switching sequence but also on the duration between the switching times.

The effect of linear lumping, linear transformation to reduce the number of state variables on controllability and observability of linear differential equations has been studied. Controllability of the original system implies the controllability of the lumped system. Examples taken from reaction kinetics illustrate our results.

Abstract. We study the exact controllability for the magnetohydrodynamic equations in multi-connected bounded domains. We show that the value of any solution of the magnetohydrodynamic system at any given time is locally exactly controllable provided that this solution is smooth enough. This means that the chosen value of such a solution can be reached by starting from initial states which are ...

Testable software has two inherent properties – observability and controllability. Observability facilitates observation of internal behavior of software to required degree of detail. Controllability allows creation of difficult-to-achieve states prior to execution of various tests. In this paper, we describe COTT, a Controllability and Observability Testing Tool, to create testable object-orie...

In this paper, structural controllability of a leader-follower multi-agent system with multiple leaders is studied from a graph-theoretic point of view. The problem of preservation of structural controllability under simultaneous failures in both the communication links and the agents is investigated. The effects of the loss of agents and communication links on the controllability of an informa...

This paper discusses the controllability problem of complex networks. It is shown that almost any weighted complex network with noise on the strength of communication links is controllable in the sense of Kalman controllability. The concept of almost controllability is elaborated by both theoretical discussions and experimental verifications.

Controllability is a fundamental sanity check for open systems such as services. Existing approaches to check controllability consider Petri net models in which data aspects are usually neglected or abstracted from. This paper investigates controllability of algebraic Petri nets and sketches a symbolic analysis approach.

In this paper, we establish a local null controllability result for a nonlinear parabolic PDE with nonlocal nonlinearities. The result relies on the (global) null controllability of similar linear equations and a fixed point argument. We also analyze other similar controllability problems and we present several open questions. © 2011 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Let (A1, A2, B) be a triple of matrices representing two-order time-invariant linear systems, ẍ = A1ẋ+A2x+Bu. Using linearization process we study the controllability of second order linear systems. We obtain sufficient conditions for controllability and we analyze the kind of systems verifying these conditions. Key-Words: Two-order linear systems, linearization, feedback, controllability.
