We report new experimental evidence on consonantinduced F0 perturbations in two languages with prevoiced stops, French and Italian. A positive correlation between duration of voicing lead and F0 at the onset of post-release voicing is observed, consistent with the predictions of an automatic or biomechanical account of the source of this effect. While the findings do not strictly rule out a rol...

It is generally assumed that the character position targeted within a particular word is not under direct cognitive control, but is rather determined by oculomotor processes sensitive only to word length and distance. An alternative view is that readers target more distant characters in words when they have parafoveally processed these words more. These possibilities are difficult to distinguis...

This paper presents an architecture to place index references from control vocabularies into XML documents. This provides three advantages currently not present in XML: the ability to simplify the writing of complex document type definitions that refer to control vocabularies, the ability to write XML documents with better indexing, and better retrieval of XML documents.

A novel current-steering delay-balanced tuning technique for distributed voltage controlled oscillators (DVCO) is demonstrated. This tuning technique is used to design a DVCO operating at 10 GHz in a 0.35 p CMOS technology. The DVCO is continuously tunable between 9.9 and 10.3 GHz. Special attention is paid to the layout issues for the high frequency design.

We study the coevolution process in the Axelrod’s model with the consideration of agents’ abilities to access to the information. With a parameter to control the ability of communication, we observe two kinds of phase transitions both for cultural domains and network fragments, respectively. With the simulation results, we find the relationship between the critical value and the controlled para...
