Meta-heuristics are algorithms which are applied to solve problems when conventional algorithms can not find good solutions in reasonable time; evolutionary algorithms are perhaps the most well-known examples of meta-heuristics. As there are many possible meta-heuristics, finding the most suitable meta-heuristic for a given problem is not a trivial task. In order to make this choice, one can de...

There was no evidence of osteonecrosis in the specimens analysed. The hydroxyapatite-coating was present to a variable degree on the specimens with good evidence of bony ongrowth under the CoChrome cap. Ongrowth was examined in five different zones with the greatest seen in the middle of the stem. Direct contact between newly formed bone and the hydroxyapatite layer was observed on light and ba...

We report the unusual case of a patient with acromegalic arthropathy who presented with severe shoulder arthrosis with marked osteophytosis. This patient is currently pain-free and has good shoulder function 4 years following a Copeland shoulder hemiarthroplasty. Acromegaly is a rare condition of growth hormone oversecretion, but arthropathy is a common feature of the natural history of the dis...

We investigate the parameterized complexity of strategic behaviors in generalized scoring rules. In particular, we prove that the manipulation, control (all the 22 standard types), and bribery problems are fixed-parameter tractable for most of the generalized scoring rules, with respect to the number of candidates. Our results imply that all these strategic voting problems are fixed-parameter t...

We characterize when a voting rule deened over two tournaments can be represented by sophisticated voting on a binary tree. This characterization has a particularly simple and intuitive specialization to the case that the two tournaments diier in exactly one place. These characterizations allow us to demonstrate the tree that implements a particular voting rule, and to show the minimality of an...

This paper presents a method of lip print comparison and recognition. In the first stage the appropriate lip print features are extracted. Lip prints can be captured by police departments. Traces from lips may also found at a crime scene. The approach uses the well known DTW algorithm and Copeland vote counting method. Tests were conducted on 120 lip print images. The results obtained are very ...
