The reagent Rh-C, incorporating a rhodamine moiety and a coumarin backbone and prepared via click chemistry, was developed as the first single molecule for detecting Cu2+, Fe3+ and Cr3+. Its response to Cu2+ in different solutions is visible to the naked eye and it exhibits a ratiometric fluorescence response to Fe3+ in methanol and Cr3+ in acetonitrile.

β-glucans exert receptor-mediated immunomodulating activities, including oxidative burst activity and cytokine secretion. The role of the β-glucan receptors dectin-1 and complement receptor 3 (CR3) in the response of immune cells towards β-glucans is still unresolved. Dectin-1 is considered as the main β-glucan receptor in mice, while recent studies in man show that CR3 is more important in β-g...

Phagocytosis is a highly ordered process orchestrated by signalling through Rho GTPases to locally organise the actin cytoskeleton and drive particle uptake. Specific Rho family members that regulate phagocytosis are not known, as the majority of studies have relied on the use of dominant-negative mutants and/or toxins, which can inactivate multiple Rho GTPases. To identify the relevant GTPases...

We demonstrate that soluble CD16 (sCD16; soluble Fc gamma RIII), a natural ligand of CR3, inhibits the infection of monocytes by primary R5 HIV-1 strain opsonized with serum of seronegative individuals. Inhibition of monocyte infection by sCD16 was similar to that observed with anti-CR3 mAbs, indicating that opsonized HIV may use a CR3-dependent pathway for entry in monocytic cells. Cultured hu...

Complement receptors (CRs), expressed notably on myeloid and lymphoid cells, play an essential function in the elimination of complement-opsonized pathogens and apoptotic/necrotic cells. In addition, these receptors are crucial for the cross-talk between the innate and adaptive branches of the immune system. CR3 (also known as Mac-1, integrin αMβ2, or CD11b/CD18) is expressed on all macrophages...

Three children from two unrelated families had a history of recurrent bacterial infections, and their neutrophils were shown to have deficient phagocytic and respiratory responses and possible deficiencies in chemotaxis or adherence. Their neutrophils were strikingly deficient in the ability to ingest or give a respiratory burst in response to unopsonized bakers’ yeast or zymosan (Z). Tests for...

The CD11b/CD18 integrin (complement receptor 3, CR3) is a surface receptor on monocytes, neutrophils, macrophages and dendritic cells that plays a crucial role in several immunological processes including leukocyte extravasation and phagocytosis. The minor allele of a non-synonymous CR3 polymorphism (rs1143679, conversation of arginine to histidine at position 77: R77H) represents one of the st...

Xanthan gum (XG) is an effective soil-binding material for enhancing the geotechnical engineering performance of soil. Due to hydrophilicity XG, however, its ineffectiveness as a soil-strengthening agent in wet conditions and associated durability concerns continue be obstacles implementation XG soil treatment. Here, we investigated effect trivalent chromium (Cr3+) crosslinking on rheology hydr...

Concentration of hydrogen peroxide to military grade (about 98 wt%) needs removal of impurities from hydrogen peroxide of commercial grade. In this research, separation of metallic impurities from hydrogen peroxide solution was studied and cations as Al, Fe, Pb, Zn and Cr were separated from commercial hydrogen peroxide using Amberlite IR-120 (strong cationic resin). The cations were separate...
