Mingers [16] suggests a notion of ‘meaning system’ in order to clarify the relationships between data (signs), information and meaning, and their bearings on information systems (IS for short). We observe that there are a few important points that need further investigation, which are centred on the basic notions of information and meaning. In this paper, we summarise the most seemingly influen...

We argue that creating novel ventures consists of inductive analogical or metaphorical reasoning, which generates a platform for the creation and commercialization of novel ventures and facilitates the comprehension and justification of a venture. We argue that such inductive reasoning is shaped by two determinants (the applicability of prior entrepreneurial experience and the motivation to res...

We delineate a theory of communicative acts as situated actions, through which agents co-construct a viable situation by creating or otherwise manipulating deontic affordances. We rely on Gilbert’s theory of plural subjects to introduce the concept of joint meaning as a type of joint commitment. We then show that our approach allows for an innovative treatment of indirect speech.

Neumann-Lara conjectured in 1985 that every planar digraph with digirth at least three is 2-colourable, meaning that the vertices can be 2-coloured without creating any monochromatic directed cycles. We prove a relaxed version of this conjecture: every planar digraph of digirth at least four is 2-colourable.

There is a certain consensus on some defining features of collocations (they are frequent, recurrent, conventional, institutionalized, etc.), but there is not much agreement on other characteristics, for example whether or not they constitute binary lexical relations, and, crucially, whether they are arbitrary, and must be stipulated, or should instead be deduced or inferred. I will argue that ...

This article presents the results we obtained on a complex annotation task (that of dependency syntax) using a specifically designed Game with a Purpose, ZombiLingo.1 We show that with suitable mechanisms (decomposition of the task, training of the players and regular control of the annotation quality during the game), it is possible to obtain annotations whose quality is significantly higher t...

The current PASSAGE syntactic representation is the result of 9 years of constant evolution with the aim of providing a common ground for evaluating parsers of French whatever their type and supporting theory. In this paper we present the latest developments concerning the formalism and show first through a review of basic linguistic phenomena that it is a plausible minimal common ground for re...

Neumann-Lara (1985) and Škrekovski conjectured that every planar digraph with digirth at least three is 2-colorable, meaning that the vertices can be 2-colored without creating any monochromatic directed cycles. We prove a relaxed version of this conjecture: every planar digraph of digirth at least five is 2-colorable. The result also holds in the setting of list colorings.

Neural network based models are a very powerful tool for creating word embeddings, the objective of these models is to group similar words together. These embeddings have been used as features to improve results in various applications such as document classification, named entity recognition, etc. Neural language models are able to learn word representations which have been used to capture sem...

Semantic Similarity between two sentences can be defined as a way to determine how related or unrelated two sentences are. The task of Semantic Similarity in terms of distributed representations can be thought to be generating sentence embeddings (dense vectors) which take both context and meaning of sentence in account. Such embeddings can be produced by multiple methods, in this paper we try ...
