We examined the role of microorganisms in the degradation of the organophosphate insecticide chlorpyrifos in soils from the United Kingdom and Australia. The kinetics of degradation in five United Kingdom soils varying in pH from 4.7 to 8.4 suggested that dissipation of chlorpyrifos was mediated by the cometabolic activities of the soil microorganisms. Repeated application of chlorpyrifos to th...

Due to plastics resilience against degradation and its proliferation in. An extremely halotolerant bacterial consortium MPD-M, immobilized. The hypothesis is that if PE-degrading microorganisms do exist in the Nature, then it will be possible to isolate them and use them for degradation of plastic bags. A microbial consortium capable of PE degradation was obtained as a result of.Selection and sc...

Bioremediation is defined as the act of adding or improving the availability of materials (e.g., nutrients, microorganisms, or oxygen) to contaminated environments to cause an acceleration of natural biodegradative processes. The results of field experiments and trials following actual spill incidents have been reviewed to evaluate the feasibility of this approach as a treatment for oil contami...

By applying the plate count and clear-zone methods, it was confirmed that polylactide (PLA)-degrading microorganisms are sparsely distributed in soil environments. An Amycolatopsis isolate was successfully isolated. Microbial degradation of PLA film was demonstrated; i.e., about 60% of the 100-mg film initially added was degraded by the strain after 14 days of liquid culture.

Chitinophaga comprises microorganisms capable of degrading plant-derived carbohydrates, serving as a source of new tools for the characterization and degradation of plant biomass. Here, we report the draft genome assembly of a Chitinophaga strain with 8.2 Mbp and 7,173 open reading frames (ORFs), isolated from a bacterial consortium that is able to degrade lignocellulose.

Mesotrione is a benzoylcyclohexane-1,3-dione herbicide that inhibits 4-hydroxyphenyl pyruvate dioxygenase in target plants. Although it has been used since 2000, only a limited number of degrading microorganisms have been reported. Mesotrione-degrading bacteria were selected among strains isolated from Brazilian aquatic environments, located near corn fields treated with this herbicide. Pantoea...

A treatability study was conducted using sea sand spiked with 3% or 6% (w/w) of Arabian light crude oil to determine the most effective bioremediation strategies for different levels of contamination. The sea sand used in the study was composed of gravel (0.1%), sand (89.0%), and silt and clay (10.9%). The water content of the sea sand was adjusted to 12.6% (w/w) for the study. Different combin...

Bioremediation efforts sometimes rely on surfactants to enhance hydrocarbon bioavailability. However, synthetic surfactants are toxic to some degrading microorganisms. In this study we screened a natural surfactant-rich compartment, the sea surface microlayer (SML), for surfactant-resistant bacteria, using enrichment cultures of sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) and cetyl trimethylammonium bromide (...

Screening of bovine rumen contents for heat-resistant and micro-aerophilic cellulose-degrading microorganisms was performed on carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) plates at 37 °C-45 °C, and many isolates were found to produce reducing sugars under a static condition. Of those isolates, R8 and R15, which efficiently produced reducing sugars from CMC at a high temperature, were further examined. Taxono...
