The importance of predicting Earthquakes is increasing due to recent catastrophes such as those in Haiti and Japan. In this project we tried to predict the depth of hypocenters of earthquakes based on ISE-GEM cagalog. Using Regression Tree we divided the Earth’s surface into thirteen smaller regions, and classified them into five groups. On each group we applied General Additive Model(GAM) and ...

Depth-bounded processes form the most expressive known fragment of the π-calculus for which interesting verification problems are still decidable. In this paper we develop an adequate domain of limits for the well-structured transition systems that are induced by depth-bounded processes. An immediate consequence of our result is that there exists a forward algorithm that decides the covering pr...

Using an axiomatic formulation, we devise a diiusion equation on movies that preserves the 3D structure of objects, an interesting property for depth recovery tasks. Since this equation presents a strong singularity and is not handled by the classical theory of viscosity solutions, we study the existence and unicity of weak solutions, and point out some properties, including a variational inter...

This paper presents an investigation of the geometric quality of depth data obtained by the Kinect sensor. Based on the mathematical model of depth measurement by the sensor a theoretical error analysis is presented, which provides an insight into the factors influencing the accuracy of the data. Experimental results show that the random error of depth measurement increases with increasing dist...

In this study, mass spectrometry was used to explore the canine tear proteome. Tear samples were obtained from six healthy dogs, and one-dimensional sodium dodecyl sulphate polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (1D SDS-PAGE) was used as a first step to separate intact proteins into 17 bands. Each fraction was then trypsin digested and analysed by matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time-of...

This paper investigates the use of wavelet decomposition of the electroencephalogram (EEG) to assess the hypnotic state of anesthetized patients undergoing surgery. A single case study and a comparison with an existing monitor of hypnosis are presented. The proposed technique can differentiate clearly between the anesthetized state and the awake “baseline” state.

Europhysics Letters PREPRINT Capillary-gravity waves: a " fixed-depth " analysis. PACS. 68.10.-m – Fluid surfaces and fluid-fluid interfaces. PACS. 47.17.+e – Mechanical properties of fluids. Abstract. – We study the onset of the wave-resistance due to the generation of capillary-gravity waves by a partially immersed moving object in the case where the object is hold at a fixed immersion depth....

Three depth recovery methods are presented. The methods are based on focusing, zooming, and motion stereo, using a single camera. An introduction to the individual methods is given, followed by an analysis of the error functions. The analysis is used to determine whether the methods are applicable for integration into a single system, enabling recovery of exible and robust depth estimates. Expe...

In this paper we propose a new method for shape analysis based on the ordering of shapes using band-depth. We use this band-depth to non-parametrically define a global depth for a shape with respect to a reference population, typically consisting of normal control subjects. This allows us to globally quantify differences with respect to "normality". Using the depth-ordering of shapes also allow...
