Microwave ultra-wideband (UWB) radar systems are advantageous for their high-range resolution and ability to penetrate dielectric objects. Internal imaging of dielectric objects by UWB radar is a promising nondestructive method of testing aging roads and bridges and a noninvasive technique for human body examination. For these applications, we have already developed an accurate internal imaging...

An external barrier of an option contract is a stochastic variable which determines whether the option is knocked in or out when the value of the variable is above or below some predetermined level, but itself is not the price of an asset which underlies the option. In this paper, we present analytic formulation for the valuation of European options on one or multiple assets with single externa...

The effect of wall and indoor scatterers on the indoor multiple input multiple output (MIMO) communication system is investigated by using the hybrid technique of finite difference time domain (FDTD) method and method of moments (MoM). MIMO channel capacity with the wall reflection is investigated with consideration of the eigenvalue of channel covariance matrix, the received power and the effe...

The propagation and reflection of electromagnetic waves in a three-dimensional environment is simulated, and realistic images are produced using the resulting light distributions and reflectance functions. A finite difference time domain method is employed to advance the electric and magnetic fields in a scene. Surfaces containing wavelength scaled structures are created, the interaction of the...

This paper describes a 1D Matlab finite difference time-domain (FDTD) code with a graphical user interface for visualization of the time-domain electromagnetic response. The program animates time-domain reflection and transmission of a Gaussian plane wave through one or two homogeneous material slabs. ß2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. The energy of solutions of the wave equation with a suitable boundary dissipation decays exponentially to zero as time goes to infinity. We consider the finite-difference space semi-discretization scheme and we analyze whether the decay rate is independent of the mesh size. We focus on the one-dimensional case. First we show that the decay rate of the energy of the classical semi-discrete syste...

We study effects of finite height and surrounding material on photonic crystal slabs of oneand two-dimensional photonic crystals with a pseudo-spectral method and finite difference time domain simulation methods. The band gap is shown to be strongly modified by the boundary material. As an application we suggest reflection and guiding of light by patterning the material on top/below the slab.

A novel hybrid Finite Difference Time Domain–Wavelet-Galerkin (FDTD–WG) technique is presented for the accurate representation of electromagnetic field solution in regions of fast field transitions. Its fundamental concept lies on the combination of the robust FDTD method with the Wavelet–Galerkin formulation, which in its turn can efficiently treat highly varying phenomena. The computational d...

During MR procedures majority of the radiofrequency (RF) power transmitted for imaging or spectroscopy is transformed into heat within the patient’s tissue as a result of resistive losses. In this work we evaluate the effect of a wide variety of receive-only insert geometry including cylinders and helmets with different trace widths on spin excitation field and SAR of a 7T TEM transmit coil.

Normally in the finite difference time domain (FDTD) technique, stationaly objects are modeled in a time domain simulation as a field propagates around them, and possibly inside these objects. Tbis paper illustrates a method in which EM fields and a moving object can be modeled using the FDTD technique. By using a techniqne of dielectric approximation and intermediate step field movement, it is...
