In this paper, we propose a Dynamic Naive Bayesian (DNB) network model for classifying data sets with hierarchical labels. The DNB model is built upon a Naive Bayesian (NB) network, a successful classifier for data with flattened (nonhierarchical) class labels. The problems using flattened class labels for hierarchical classification are addressed in this paper. The DNB has a top-down structure...

We characterise explicitly the decidable predicates on integers of Innnite Time Turing machines, in terms of admissibility theory and the constructible hierarchy. We do this by pinning down , the least ordinal not the length of any eventual output of an Innnite Time Turing machine (halting or otherwise); using this the Innnite Time Turing Degrees are considered, and it is shown how the jump ope...

Hierarchical Text Categorization (HTC) is becoming increasingly important with the rapidly growing amount of text data available in the World Wide Web. Among the different strategies proposed to cope with HTC, the Local Classifier per Node (LCN) approach attains good performance by mirroring the underlying class hierarchy while enforcing a top-down strategy in the testing step. However, the pro...

Whether an object captures our attention depends on its bottom-up salience, that is, how different it is compared with its neighbors, and top-down control, that is, our current inner goals. At which neuronal stage they interact to guide behavior is still unknown. In a functional magnetic resonance imaging study, we found evidence for a hierarchy of saliency maps in human early visual cortex (V1...

The Eclipse modelling framework provides a hierarchy of Java classes that represent the abstract syntax of BPEL4WS. Many analyses of a BPEL4WS program boil down to walking its abstract syntax tree. We review, refine and extend a technique, based on Java’s reflection mechanism, to walk such trees. We apply this technique to implement two non-trivial analyses of BPEL4WS programs.

We study abstract interpretations of a fixpoint protoderivation semantics defining the maximal derivations of a transitional semantics of context-free grammars akin to pushdown automata. The result is a hierarchy of bottom-up or top-down semantics refining the classical equational and derivational language semantics and including Knuth grammar problem, classical grammar flow analysis algorithms...

The well-known simulation of Turing machines by push-down automata with two stacks is shown to be possible, even if the latter has only a single state and is deterministic. This sheds new light on the nature of states and their relationship with storage, and enables a unification of different types of abstract machines. Moreover, further refinements of the Chomsky hierarchy are proposed.

A concept hierarchy is a set of concepts and relations between those concepts. Since ancient times, concept hierarchies have been used to organize and access information. In some situations, task-specific and user-specific concept hierarchies are necessary to allow an overview and easy access a large set of documents. For example, in regulatory reforms, rule-makers in government regulatory agen...

In an industry setting, classic supply chains display strict hierarchy, w...
