Abstract New technological advances are changing the way robotics designed for safe and dependable physical human–robot interaction human-like prosthesis. Outstanding examples adoption of soft covers, compliant transmission elements, motion control laws that allow behavior in event collisions while preserving accuracy performance during free space. In this scenario, there is growing interest va...

One of the most frequently overlooked injuries is neglected radial head dislocation, which is currently known as Monteggia fracture dislocation. Chronic radial head dislocation can result in elbow stiffness, deformity, persistent pain, and instability. In this report, we described an unusual case involving chronic radial head dislocation that was neglected for 15 years and secondary ulnocarpal ...

A single antegrade Rush nail was used to treat 37 fractures of the distal humerus extending to the olecranon fossa and up to 6.5 cm proximal to it. In order to stabilise the fracture, the bent tip of the Rush nail was directed into the lateral epicondylar ridge. This gave immediate stability. All the fractures united without residual stiffness of the shoulder or elbow.

Racket properties may affect tennis elbow development. Shock and vibration to the arm is influenced by the location of ball impacts on the racket head, racket stiffness, and grip force. Beginners experience increased arm loads, and they hit the ball lower on the racket head. Tennis rackets behave differently during actual play compared with the performance predicted by physics.

Individuals commonly adjust joint stiffness in response to changes in environmental and task demands. The objective of the present study was to evaluate the contribution of muscular cocontraction and eccentric activity to this adjustment. In all, 30 healthy volunteers participated in the present study. The authors indirectly manipulated elbow stiffness by modifying (a) the frequency of forearm ...

Approximately 30% of all upper extremity fractures are elbow which may result stiffness. This study aimed to investigate the efficacy onaBotulinum Toxin type A injection prevent post-traumatic pain and elbow-stiffness. All patients were included who presented a single surgeon with supracondylar/ intraarticular distal humerus fractures, proximal ulna radius fractures. The was developed in random...

OBJECTIVE To evaluate whether resting joint angle is indicative of severity of spasticity of the elbow flexors in chronic stroke survivors. METHODS Seventeen hemiparetic stroke subjects (male: n = 13; female: n = 4; age: 37-89 years; 11 right and 6 left hemiplegia; averaged 54.8 months after stroke, ranging 12-107 months) participated in the study. The number of subjects with modified Ashwort...

A prototype of a variable stiffness prosthetic joint has been constructed and tested. The joint is based on two actuator subsystems arranged in an antagonistic configuration. Each actuator subsystem is composed of a small, high-speed electric motor, a single stage, worm-gear based transmission and a nonlinear stiffness element. Each nonlinear stiffness element is composed of a set of short sect...
