New 'omics'-technologies have the potential to better define airway disease in terms of pathophysiological and clinical phenotyping. The integration of electronic nose (eNose) technology with existing diagnostic tests, such as routine spirometry, can bring this technology to 'point-of-care'. We aimed to determine and optimize the technical performance and diagnostic accuracy of exhaled breath a...

A new type of hot-wire flow-rate sensor (HWFS) with a sensing element made of a macro-sized carbon nanotube (CNT) strand is presented in this study. An effective way to improve repeatability of the CNT flow-rate sensor by coating a layer of Al(2)O(3) on the CNT surface is proposed. Experimental results show that due to the large surface-to-volume ratio and thin coated Al(2)O(3) layer, the CNT f...

Recent advances in wireless electronic and communications provide us the ability to build small, economical sensors with low power consumption and many diverse applications. Limited energy capacity of sensors is a huge challenge that will affect these networks. Clustering has been used as a well-known method to handle this challenge. To find appropriate location of clusters' heads, imperialist ...

This paper presents a highly sensitive flow-rate sensor with carbon nanotubes (CNTs) as sensing elements. The sensor uses micro-size centimeters long double-walled CNT (DWCNT) strands as hot-wires to sense fluid velocity. In the theoretical analysis, the sensitivity of the sensor is demonstrated to be positively related to the ratio of its surface. We assemble the flow sensor by suspending the ...

To detect POCl3 molecule, adsorption phenomena of this molecule on the pure, Al- and Si-doped BN sheet surfaces were investigated via density functional theory (DFT) approach. The most stable adsorption complexes, including POCl3/BN (O-B), POCl3/Al-BN (O-Al), and POCl3/Si-BN (O-Si), were predicted with the adsorption energies of about -8.64, -37.01 and, -62.01 kcal mol-1, respectively. Upon the...

This review describes an "electronic dog nose" based on a surface plasmon resonance (SPR) sensor and an antigen-antibody interaction for security and safety. We have concentrated on developing appropriate sensor surfaces for the SPR sensor for practical use. The review covers different surface fabrications, which all include variations of a self-assembled monolayer containing oligo(ethylene gly...

The selectivity of measurements by means of affinity sensors in (quasi)equilibrium conditions and in non-equilibrium conditions was compared. The results show that the measurements in non-equilibrium conditions can reduce or even eliminate a relative contribution of interferents to a sensor signal.

the depth control systems used in iranian tractors are mechanical and they produce variable tillage depth in uneven field surface. in this research a rotary type electronic control valve was designed and constructed. by using this valve, electro-hydraulic tillage depth control system was developed and installed on the tractor. the control system was composed of: a depth sensor, a programmable l...

For the past two decades, electronic noses are being developed to serve a wide variety of industrial applications in addition to providing many insights into biological systems. A large part of the development into olfaction has been focussed on the sensor technology and development of sensor systems capable of measuring chemical gases [3]. To complete the model however, consideration needs als...

Flow sensors commonly are used in, for example, micro liquid handling systems or for measuring gas flows. One example is a gas flow sensor used as a microphone: the Microflown [3]. This sensor is designed to measure particle velocity, very small flows in a frequency range up to twenty kilo Hertz. While the signal to noise ratio is a very important parameter of the microflown an innovative measu...
