Hexose oxidase from Chondrus crispus catalyzes the oxidation of a variety of mono- and disaccharides including D-glucose, D-galactose, maltose, and lactose. The enzyme has previously been partially purified and was reported to be a highly glycosylated, copper-containing protein with a relative molecular mass of approximately 130,000 (Sullivan, J. D., and Ikawa, M. (1973) Biochim. Biophys. Acta ...

Background: Hyperglycemia is a metabolic response to surgical stress. In this study, patients’ blood glucose changes were measured before, during and after elective eye surgeries under general anesthesia, with two methods: glucometer and glucose oxidase enzyme lab assay. Probable influencing factors and the correlation rate of these two methods were evaluated. Methods: This analytic cross – sec...

Rapid and accurate detection of glucose is great significance for diabetic management. Highly sensitive sensors promise to achieve noninvasive technology, enabling more convenient efficient means large-scale screening long-term dynamic monitoring diabetes patients. In this work, we demonstrate a electrochemical biosensor through the synergetic labelling strategy utilizing PbS colloidal quantum ...

A method is proposed for controlling the number of nanoparticles bound to cell membranes via RGDS peptide-integrin interactions. It consists of propelling nanoparticles bearing the peptides with enzymes (glucose oxidase), which disrupts biomolecular interactions as a function of the concentration of enzyme substrate (glucose).

Alcaligenes species CF8 isolated from surface water of a lake produced a novel serine type metallo-caffeine oxidase. The optimal medium for caffeine oxidase production by this strain was (w/v) NaNO(3), 0.4%; KH(2)PO(4), 0.15%; Na(2)HPO(4), 0.05%; FeCl(3).6H(2)O, 0.0005%; CaCl(2).2H(2)O, 0.001%; MgSO(4).7H(2)O, 0.02%; glucose, 0.2%; caffeine, 0.05%, pH 7.5. The enzyme was purified to 63-fold by ...

Hansenula polymorpha CBS 4732 was studied during cultivation on methanol and different glucose concentrations. Activities of Cu/Zn and Mn superoxide dismutase, catalase and methanol oxidase were investigated. During cultivation on methanol, increased superoxide dismutase and catalase activities and an induced methanol oxidase were achieved. Transfer of a methanol grown culture to medium with a ...

A novel method for preparing enzyme membranes was developed. The enzyme was attached onto the electrode surface by dropping the enzyme solution and allowing it to dry. Glucose oxidase was used for entrapment. Then, the electrode surface was coated with an ionic liquid containing cellulose, and the ionic liquid was removed by immersing the electrode into water. Enzyme activity was retained in th...

Bleaching effect of cotton fabrics using hydrogen peroxide produced by glucose oxidase enzyme from Aspergillus niger has been studied. It is observed that enzymes are highly active at acidic pH under room temperature in terms of peroxide release during the reaction. Incomplete conversion of glucose by the enzyme results in discolouration of the reaction bath and the fabrics under alkaline pH co...

The scanning electrochemical microscope (SECM) can be used to detect electron-transfer reactions of tlp-generated species that occur at nonconductlve surfaces contalnlng a redox-actlve enzyme. Experlments were carrkd out wlth glucose oxldase lmmoblilzed on several substrates and the apparent kinetics of the enzyme catalyds were measured for several medlator oxldants under condltlons of hlgh pgi...
