Tumors of the epididymis, both primary and secondary are very rare. Leiomyomas are the second most common tumors of the epididymis. In this study we reported a 65yearold male case with epididymal leiomyoma, which was difficult to diagnose, and briefly discussed clinical features and diagnosis as well as treatment which based on anatomo-histopathological analysis.

A 46-year-old man presented with a 1-month history of fever. He had undergone peritoneal dialysis for 7 years to treat endstage renal disease and underwent renal transplantation in 2006. For 10 days, he presented with minimal scrotal swelling and discomfort. Ultrasonography showed that both testes were normal in size and had normal echogenicity, but the right epididymis was enlarged, showing mo...

During transit through the epididymis, spermatozoa are normally kept immotile and do not attain the ability to become motile until they reach the caudal epididymis. This study was undertaken to determine whether endocannabinoids play a role in the epididymis and in particular in suppressing the ability of spermatozoa to become motile. We show that the levels of the endocannabinoid 2-arachidonoy...

Spermatozoa of the opossum, Didelphis virginiana, were taken from three different regions of the epididymis and examined by scanning electron microscopy, phase-contrast and dark-field microscopy. It has been demonstrated that marked morphological changes occur in spermatozoa during their passage through the epididymis. In the first segment or head of the epididymis, spermatozoa are non-motile a...

The epithelium lining the epididymis in the male reproductive tract maintains a luminal environment that promotes sperm cell maturation. This process is dependent on the coordinated expression of many genes that encode proteins with a role in epithelial transport. We previously generated genome-wide maps of open chromatin in primary human epididymis epithelial (HEE) cells to identify potential ...

β-catenin is an integral part of the Wnt signaling pathway and has been linked to tumorigenesis and multiple developmental processes. The high β-catenin expression with low tumor incidence in the human epididymis is thus intriguing. In the present study, the β-catenin gene and protein was found to be highly expressed in the murine caput epididymidis, and the protein mainly localized along the l...

Chronic inflammatory conditions of the male reproductive tract are thought to be a primary etiological factor in male infertility. The epididymis is considered to be the most common site of intrascrotal inflammation and a significant cause of male fertility disorders rather than the prostate or seminal vesicles. The purpose of the present study was to identify the distribution of DCs of various...

During its passage through the epididymis, the gamete undergoes a process of "maturation" leading to the acquisition of its fertilizing ability. The epididymis displays regional variations in the morphology and metabolic properties of its epithelium which are relevant for the progressive development of mature sperm characteristics. The epididymis has spontaneous peristaltic contractions and rec...

Histomorphological changes of epididymis and ductus deferens in male Black Bengal goat due to arsenic were studied. A total of 12 male Black Bengal goats, in which 6 were collected from arsenic affected areas of Mymensingh district and another 6 were collected from hill tracts of Chittagong which were arsenic free. The goats were sacrificed by piercing carotid artery and the samples (Epididymis ...

Studies on the distribution of Na+, K+-dependent, Mg2+ dependent and Ca2+ dependent Adenosine Triphosphatase (ATP-ases) in the testes, epididymis, seminal vesicles and prostate glands of mature bonnet monkeys were carried out with and without Testosterone propionate (TP) treatment. Comparatively, the Ca2+ dependent ATP-ase was very active in the testes, caput and cauda epididymis and prostate o...
