Heat treatment of persimmon peel (PP) increased the antioxidative activity of the 70% ethanolic extract (EE) and water extract (WE) from PP. EE and WE both prevented H2O2-induced DNA damage to human peripheral lymphocytes. The antioxidative and antigenotoxic activities of the PP extracts were significantly affected by heating.

Brown adipose tissue (BAT) is responsible for cold- and diet-induced thermogenesis, and thereby contributes to the control of whole-body energy expenditure (EE) and body fat content. BAT activity can be assessed by fluoro-2-deoxyglucose (FDG)-positron emission tomography (PET) in human subjects. Grains of paradise (GP, Aframomum melegueta), a species of the ginger family, contain pungent, aroma...

The residual film toxicity, fumigant toxicity and repellent effect of methanol extract of root bark of Calotropis gigantea (Linn) and its chloroform and petroleum ether (40-60°C) soluble fractions were evaluated against several inster of larvae and adult of Tribolium castaneum. In residual film toxicity, methanol extract and its chloroform and petroleum ether fractions showed insecticidal activ...

Studies of Indigofera tinctoria Linn has shows that it possesses low toxicity. Phytochemical evaluation of leaf extract of Indigofera tinctoria Linn has been carried out to characterize some constituents present therein. Qualitative analysis of the extracts showed the presence of flavonoids, alkaloids, glycosides, terpenoids. Five compounds have been isolated from petroleum ether extract and me...

A trial was conducted to evaluate the effect of fat emulsifier on fat utilization in broiler chickens using 240 days old chicks which were divided into 24 replicates in a 3×2 factorial arrangement under Completely Randomized Design (CRD). Experimental diets were formulated using 1, 2 or 3% fat with or without fat emulsifier (Lecithin) at 350 mg kgG1. The trial lasted for 35 days and was divided...

The present study was conducted to investigate the chemical composition of rice polishing available in Pakistan used in poultry rations as an energy source. Chemical analysis of 195 samples was done. Overall, 60% samples had either lower or higher percentage of ether extract as compared to reference value (1316%). Large number of samples (41.54%) showed lower value of ether extract (less than 1...

Rhodium complexes of diazaphospholane ligands catalyze the asymmetric hydroformylation of N-vinyl carboxamides, allyl ethers, and allyl carbamates; products include 1,2- and 1,3-aminoaldehydes and 1,3-alkoxyaldehydes. Using glass pressure bottles, short reaction times (generally less than 6 h), and low catalyst loading (commonly 0.5 mol %), 20 substrates are successfully converted to chiral ald...

Crossbred heifers (n = 120; BW = 368 kg, SD = 39 kg) were used to determine effects of dried distillers grains (DDG) and relative contributions of undegradable intake protein (UIP) and fat (ether extract, EE) in DDG on ADG and forage intake (FI). Heifers rotationally grazed six 3.5-ha, smooth bromegrass paddocks (IVDMD = 65.7%, CP = 20.8%, UIP = 2.17%, DM basis). Heifers were blocked by previou...

This study describes the biological activity of the dried leaves, stem and rhizomes of Curcuma zedoaria belonging to the family Zingiberaceae. The dried powders of the plant were extracted with organic solventsmethanol and pet ether sequentially by the maceration process. The crude extract of methanol and pet ether were then investigated for analgesic and antimicrobial activity. At an oral dose...
