A new approach to fast-neutron dosimeq is described. It involves circulating a liquid with dissolved chemicals between a localized neutron field and a remote area where neutron-induced radioactivities are measured continuously. This approach employs reactions whch generate relatively short-lived radioactive byproducts. Sensitivity to the neutron energy spectrum is achieved by choosing several r...
An interaction between two atoms, bonded or non-bonded, consists of interatomic contributions: electrostatic energy, exchange energy and electronic correlation energy. Together with the intra-atomic energy of an atom, these contributions are the basic components of the Interacting Quantum Atom (IQA) energy decomposition scheme. Here, we investigate IQA's proper use in conjunction with an explic...
Fast radio bursts (FRB) are millisecond-duration radio pulses with apparent extragalactic origins. All but two of the FRBs have been discovered using the Parkes dish, which employs multiple beams formed by an array of feed horns on its focal plane. In this paper, we show that (i) the preponderance of multiple-beam detections and (ii) the detection rates for varying dish diameters can be used to...
The title compound, C(16)H(12)O(5), common name: lucidin ω-methyl ether, exists as a planar mol-ecule (r.m.s. deviation = 0.04 Å). Within the mol-ecule, the 1-hydr-oxy group forms a hydrogen bond to the adjacent carbonyl O atom, and the 3-hydr-oxy group forms a hydrogen bond to the adjacent meth-oxy O atom. The meth-oxy O atom is disordered over two positions of equal occupancy.
We investigated structural disorder by a new structural parameter, quasi-nearest atom (QNA), in atomistic configurations of eight metallic glass-forming systems generated through molecular dynamics simulations at various temperatures. Structural analysis reveals that the scaled distribution of the number of QNA appears to be an universal property of metallic liquids and the spatial distribution...
The localization of sound sources with delay-and-sum (DAS) beamforming is limited by a poor spatial resolution-particularly at low frequencies. Various methods based on deconvolution are examined to improve the resolution of the beamforming map, which can be modeled by a convolution of the unknown acoustic source distribution and the beamformer's response to a point source, i.e., point-spread f...
The Hypocrealean epibiont of Baccharis coridifolia has been shown to synthesize de novo a series of macrocyclic trichothecene antibiotics, such as roridin A, roridin E, verrucarin A and verrucarin J. The structures of the compounds were determined by spectroscopic methods (1Hand 13C-NMR and FABMS).
Distortion product otoacoustic emissions (DPOAEs) recorded in the ear canal are a composite or vector sum of two underlying components. The relationship between hearing thresholds and DPOAE-component level, rather than composite level, has been of recent interest. Two different signal-processing methods, inverse fast Fourier transform (IFFT) with time-windowing and low-pass filtering, were used...
The fast Padé transform (FPT) is a method of spectral analysis that can be used to reconstruct nuclear magnetic resonance spectra from truncated free induction decay signals with superior robustness and spectral resolution compared with conventional Fourier analysis. The aim of this study is to show the utility of FPT in reducing of the scan time required for hyperpolarized 13C chemical shift i...
fabms analysis of t-lb peptide before and after one cycle of edman degradation indicated an unblocked n-terminal thr residue for this tryptic peptide. in contrast , our data showed a molecular protonated ion, mh + for t- la peptide at 655 mass units (mu) which is 42 mu higher than the mh ion of t- 1b peptide. in addition, t- la peptide was not amenable to one cycle of manual edman degradation. ...
