We reviewed 18 hips in 17 patients at a mean of five years after performing Sugioka's transtrochanteric anterior rotational osteotomy for avascular necrosis. The results were satisfactory in only three hips (17%). Twelve hips had been revised by hip replacement, revision was pending in one and two others were unsatisfactory. Hip replacement was not compromised by the previous Sugioka osteotomy....

We have reviewed 54 hips in 46 patients from 2 to 14 years after a joint-preserving operation for idiopathic avascular necrosis of the femoral head. The choice between core decompression (17 hips), bone grafting (18), rotation osteotomy (15) or varus osteotomy (4) was determined by the stage and location of the area of necrosis. The overall success rate was unexpectedly low at 60%. Core decompr...

We studied, clinically and radiologically, the growth and remodelling of 21 hips after valgus femoral osteotomy with both rotational and sagittal correction for hinge abduction in 21 patients (mean age, 9.7 years) with Perthes' disease. The exact type of osteotomy performed was based on the pre-operative clinical and radiological assessment and the results of intra-operative dynamic arthrograph...

BACKGROUND Rotational acetabular osteotomy (RAO), Chiari osteotomy and shelf procedure are important treatments to delay the progression of osteoarthritis in developmental dysplasia of hip (DDH) patients, but their biomechanical differences are still unknown. This study was to evaluate the different biomechanical changes of hip joint after these three surgeries. METHODS Sixteen DDH models of ...

AbstractSurgical treatment of coxo-femoral dysplasia (CFD) is quite difficult. The use al aiming reduction forceps in the installation toogling rode an alternative method that can be further developed for handling CFD without osteotomy femoral head (FHO). combination among good action, appropriate and rehabilitation therapy could ideal step better recovery patients with CFD. Complete this case ...

Introduction: Total hip arthroplasty (THA) after proximal femoral fixation is a challenging procedure due to possible hardware-related complications. Case presentation: A 78-year-old female with hip osteoarthritis had a proximal femoral osteotomy fixed using a blade plate in the same femur 41 years ago. A two-step approach was planned. After a challenging...

PURPOSE Bony resection of the proximal medial tibia, an alternative technique for soft tissue balancing in total knee arthroplasty (TKA), was compared to the conventional medial soft tissue release technique. MATERIALS AND METHODS From June 2005 to June 2007, we performed 40 TKA in 27 patients with ≥10° tibio-femoral varus deformity. The conventional, medial soft tissue release technique was ...

This nationwide prospective study was designed to determine prognostic factors and evaluate the outcome of different treatments of Perthes' disease. A total of 28 hospitals in Norway were instructed to report all new cases of Perthes' disease over a period of five years and 425 patients were reported and followed for five years. Of these, 368 with unilateral disease were included in the present...

Fracture of the femoral head and the acetabulum with traumatic dislocation of the hip is a severe injury representing various types and unfavorable outcome. We showed a 45-year-old man with Pipkin type-IV fracture and coxa valga. An immediate closed reduction was achieved followed by open reduction and internal fixation via a posterior approach 6 days later. However, dislocation occurred three ...

Total hip replacement for high dislocation of the hip joint remains technically difficult in terms of preparation of the true acetabulum and restoration of leg length. We describe our experience of cementless total hip replacement combined with a subtrochanteric femoral shortening osteotomy in 20 hips with Crowe grade IV dislocation with a mean follow-up of 8.1 years (4 to 11.5). There was one ...
