We derive the minimum observing time scales to detect a blazar at a given flux level with the LAT on GLAST in the scanning and pointing modes. Based upon Phase 1 observations with EGRET, we predict the GLAST detection rate of blazar flares at different flux levels. With some uncertainty given the poor statistics of bright blazars, we predict that a blazar flare with integral flux > ∼ 200 × 10−8...
In January 1993 we observed the RSCVn-type binary system UX Ari at 6 cm using the 32m radiotelescope of Noto, with a temporal coverage of about 12 hours per day. The sourcewas found to be in a very active period, with a continuous series of radio flares of flux densities up to 350mJy. The analysis of the data shows that the radio emission consists of two different components: a continuous serie...
We report results from a systematic search for X-ray flares from Mrk 421, using archival data from the Rossi X-Ray Timing Explorer (RXTE) satellite. The flares are clearly seen over a wide range of timescales. The quasicontinuous coverage of the source with the All-SkyMonitor (ASM) reveals frequent occurrence of major flares that last for months. On a few occasions, the source was intensively m...
We present a dynamical analysis of the flow in the jets of the low-luminosity radio galaxy 3C 31 based on our earlier geometrical and kinematic model (Laing & Bridle 2002) and on estimates of the external pressure and density distributions from Chandra observations (Hardcastle et al. 2002). We apply conservation of particles, energy and momentum to derive the variations of pressure and density ...
We compare deep VLA imaging of the total intensity and linear polarization of the inner jets in the nearby, low-luminosity radio galaxy 3C 31 with models of the jets as intrinsically symmetrical, decelerating relativistic flows. We show that the principal differences in appearance of the main and counter-jets within 30 arcsec of the nucleus can result entirely from the effects of relativistic a...
According to the data reported by international and governmental agencies, Russian Federation remains one of world’s major associated petroleum gas (APG) flaring nations. In past decade, numerous studies have shown applicability satellite-based methods estimate flaring. New observations might offer an insight in region-, company-, site-specific patterns, as are often incomplete. We provide a de...
