BACKGROUND Vesico-adnexal fistulae are rare. Potential causes of such fistulae include infection, endometriosis, and iatrogenic causes following pelvic surgeries. To the best of our knowledge, only 3 cases of vesico-adnexal fistulae have been reported, and all these patients were treated surgically by removing the involved adnexa, excising the fistulous duct, and suturing the bladder. We descri...

Ureteral stents have been used for maintaining luminal patency in ureteral obstruction, including cases of malignant ureteral obstruction due to pelvic malignancy, since the late 1970s (1). Due to migration, encrustation, obstruction, and infection, these ureteral stents have to be removed or exchanged within 4-6 months of the initial placement (2-4). Recently, new optional stents such as metal...

Ureteral access is necessary in many endourological procedures including ureteroscopy and ureteral stenting. Technologies such as ureteral access sheaths, balloon dilators, and coaxial dilators may be helpful in facilitating ureteral access in difficult cases. This chapter describes a stenting technique that relies on fluoroscopic guidance once the initial guidewire is placed and the cystoscope...

Transbronchial lung biopsy performed on a 51-year-old woman for the evaluation of nodular densities with cavities in the bilateral apical areas was complicated by the breakage of the biopsy forceps. The broken fragment of the forceps was successfully retrieved by use of the magnetic extractor through a fiberoptic bronchoscope under fluoroscopic guidance.

The TIPS procedure is an endovascular operation guided by biplane fluoroscopy. The goal is to pass a needle from the hepatic vein through the liver into the portal vein. We are developing a software for real-time, 3D guidance of the procedure. This paper discusses means of automatically defining the needle from biplane fluoroscopic views.

This is the first reported case of an automatic implantable cardioverter-defibrillator patch placement complicated by hemoptysis. It is also notable because the patient's massive hemoptysis was managed by a balloon occlusion catheter inserted into the segmental bronchus through the endotracheal tube with fluoroscopic guidance.

Eighteen patients with vertebral lesions located in the thoracic or lumbar spine underwent percutaneous biopsy performed via a transpedicular approach under fluoroscopic guidance. This technique led to an accurate diagnosis in 16 cases (89%). No complications were encountered. For percutaneous lumbar and thoracic vertebral biopsy, the transpedicular approach is a safe and accurate alternative t...
