A readout integrated circuit (ROIC) using two-step fastest signal identification (FSI) is proposed to reduce the number of input channels of a data acquisition (DAQ) block with a high-channel reduction ratio. The two-step FSI enables the proposed ROIC to filter out useless input signals that arise from scattering and electrical noise without using complex and bulky circuits. In addition, an asy...

The basolateral amygdala (BLA) sends excitatory projections to the nucleus accumbens (NAc) and regulates motivated behaviors partially by activating NAc medium spiny neurons (MSNs). Here, we characterized a feedforward inhibition circuit, through which BLA-evoked activation of NAc shell (NAcSh) MSNs was fine-tuned by GABAergic monosynaptic innervation from adjacent fast-spiking interneurons (FS...

Bio-inspired polymeric heart valves (PHVs) are excellent candidates to mimic the structural and the fluid dynamic features of the native valve. PHVs can be implanted as prosthetic alternative to currently clinically used mechanical and biological valves or as potential candidate for a minimally invasive treatment, like the transcatheter aortic valve implantation. Nevertheless, PHVs are not curr...

Alterations of the serotonergic system in the prefrontal cortex (PFC) are implicated in psychiatric disorders such as schizophrenia and depression. Although abnormal synchronous activity is observed in the PFC of these patients, little is known about the role of serotonin (5-HT) in cortical synchrony. We found that 5-HT, released by electrical stimulation of the dorsal raphe nucleus (DRN) in an...

A method is presented for studying and quantifying the biomechanical behavior of the human eye under elevated fluid and structural pressure loading. The approach taken involves a coupled synergistic computer modeling and experimental effort in which numerical models are used to predict the biomechanical response of eye under pressure, and physical cadaveric eye models along with appropriate ima...

I discuss the rôle of strong final state interactions (FSI) in K → 2π decays. In this case strong FSI effects can be resummed [1,2] by solving the Omnès problem for K → 2π amplitudes. Implications for the CP conserving ∆I = 1/2 ratio and the direct CP violation parameter ε ′ /ε are also discussed.

I give a brief review of final state interactions in meson decays. I describe possible effects of FSI in K, D and B systems, paying particular attention to the description of the heavy meson decays. Available theoretical methods for dealing with the effects of FSI are discussed.

PURPOSE Fungal infections are one of the most common skin infections. Athletes, especially in contact sports such as wrestlers are the group at risk of fungal skin infections (FSI). The aim of this study was to determine prevalence of FSI and some effective factors in wrestlers in Tehran, Iran. METHODS This study was a cross-sectional descriptive study which was conducted in 2009 and subjects...

Final-state interaction effects in charmless Bu,d,s → PP decays are studied. We investigate the B 0 → π+π−, π0π0 rates and the Kπ direct CP violations, which lead to the so-called Kπ puzzle in CP violation. Our main results are as follows: (i) Results are in agreement with data in the presence of FSI. (ii) For B decays, the π+π− and π0π0 rates are suppressed and enhanced respectively by FSI. (i...

Pulses of fine sediment in gravel-bedded rivers can cause extensive fine sediment infiltration (FSI) into void spaces in coarse bed material, potentially altering river morphodynamics and aquatic ecosystems. Previous work suggests a conceptual model of FSI whereby FSI occurs to a limited depth as a function of the relative grain size of bed sediment compared with infiltrating sediment and is in...
