Leptin receptors are expressed on mesolimbic dopamine neurons, yet little is known about the functional significance of this anatomical relationship. In this issue of Neuron, Hommel et al. reveal a novel site for leptin's regulation of feeding. In turn, Fulton et al. propose a novel role for leptin in regulating non-feeding-related motivated behaviors.

Suppose that X is a nonsingular variety and D is a nonsingular proper subvariety. Configuration spaces of distinct and non-distinct n points in X away from D were constructed by the author and B. Kim in [4] by using the method of wonderful compactification. In this paper, we give an explicit presentation of Chow motives and Chow rings of these configuration spaces.

We give a new geometric proof of a conjecture of Fulton on the Littlewood-Richardson coefficients. This conjecture was firstly proved by Knutson, Tao and Woodward using the Honeycomb theory. A geometric proof was given by Belkale. Our proof is based on the geometry of Horn’s cones.
